Hi TJ,
You got there before me ;-)
I was just talking to his son Graham earlier in the week. Very sad to see him go but the Alzheimers had taken him a few years before.
Graham and I were running together since school and he had his dads speed but maybe not the dedication needed to get to the top and stay there.
Ron did an amazing job of popularising running in the local area. I think I ran in about 5 of the Tour of Tameside races which was a compilation of 6 racing disciplines covering 52 miles in a week. It was a tough race.
The business he set up revolutionised running gear that was pretty staid until all his pattered running shorts came out. All my running gear was from his local shop.
A true inspiration, sadly missed.

It sure does sound like a grueling race(s), Neil. You guys always amaze me what you are able to do with perseverance.

That's a warm reflection you have of them. 82 is a good age, and although he will be missed, it's comforting to know a good one made it through so long.

My mother is in the early stages of Alzheimer's. Her sister passed from it. It is said, "Alzheimer's is a long, slow goodbye." But I don't think that's the hardest part of it. I think watching her being robbed of her independence is the hardest.

Hi TJ,
My dad also had Alzheimers as have most of my friends parents. I am convinced it is diet related. It is the Western diet that is killing off our brains. There are countries around the world such as India, Japan and the medeterranean countries where it is very low and then there is countries where is is high like in the UK.
My dads diet was poor, he didn't like veggies and mainly ate pies and sweet foods. It's probably politically unacceptable to talk about the issue.
The old saying "You are what you eat" comes to mind.

Regards

Neil

I've heard that diet could be a huge influencer and the point about the med diet being beneficial as well. I would also think that there are some genetics and other underlying triggers that go along with diet that make it materialize in a person. I think at this late stage though, the wheels are set in motion for her (and for me too should that be my fate).
