Hello barefoot friends

Hello fellow barefooters, I'm Emil, new in the neighborhood. So nice to be here among people who like me, enjoy the barefoot life indoor and specially outdoors.

I've found this site by looking for info about some troubles I had trying to run barefoot again after the pandemic, I was very concerned about my condition so I looked for info so I found this interesting site.

Here is my problem.

Barefoot since my happy childhood until current days entering my early 40, being working in the past 10 years I haven't the chance to some barefoot walking and I became sedentary. So about 2 months ago I tried again but not only walking but running BF at least 10km 2 times a week, I pushed myself so hard that I hurt myself, my knees, ankles and my left foot big toe.

I was doing well but I am out since 3 weeks ago, I barely can step on my left foot barefoot, but shod I walk normally, my foot doesn't hurt too much anymore so I think it is some psychological disorder and a little fear to step properly. Of course this is causing me problems in my knees and my balance. I decided to rest until this weekend and then try again several kilometers but not running, just walking at average speed, barefoot of course.

I really hope I could walk normally and then run as I always did in the past, I'm not that old to have these problems, not fat either, maybe I pushed myself too hard without the proper training, or at least just walk before run. The pandemic made me lazy and sedentary so I desperately need to recover my body again, and running barefoot without any problems is my goal before mid year.

If anyone have any advice on this I will appreciate it, I know I must re-learn to walk before run, and must warm my legs before pushing hard.

All right, that's it, thanks for accepting me in this community.

Awesome you found us, Emil! Welcome! Sorry you are injured. I know how that sucks when you're anxious to get out there and get going. I do believe you overdid it though...Too Much Too Soon (TMTS). Have you seen a doctor to find out if you have a hairline fracture or something else? I think the shoes are helping you to avoid the pain by compressing your foot's bones together, and when you're barefooted, the bones are allowed to splay and move about. That's where you are feeling the pain. If it turns out to be a stress fracture, don't fear, heal, and then get back out there, but this time, go slowly! In the meantime, Rest, Rest, Rest! Hopefully, others will chime in here soon. :barefoot:

Hello Barefoot TJ, thanks for the welcome!

About my foot, I don't think it is a stress fracture, the pain is very little now and actually today I had a morning 4km barefoot walk in a local park near to my house, just walk, I felt good, I think I can run again but I prefer to go slowly, I think it is a muscular issue or maybe a joint?

But I am healing quick, since the injure -3 weeks ago- I am treating myself with Ibuprofen, as I saw it helps to heal joint pain, my right knee is okay, left ankle okay too, the only remain pain is in my left foot, but not to much anymore.

I was really concerned about this, I thought I am old already? or maybe I never could run barefoot again? or even walk in my bare soles? No way! I'd rather be dead if I am forced to use sneakers or ugly shoes in my morning walkins, at least not before my 60 years.

There's nothing more pleasant as being barefoot, walking and running, we don't need any shoes by default. Anyway I will go very slowly, I think in the second half of this year I will be able to run again without any risks.

I understand. I came to barefoot running via way of an injury due to incorrect footwear choices, mostly while running, i.e., Nike, Brooks, Saucony, you know the type, boat anchors, foot coffins. I used to say, "I thank God for Morton's Neuroma, because without it I would have never discovered barefoot running." Nowadays, I'm struggling to hold onto that belief as my feet have not improved no matter how much therapy, treatments, and surgery I've had. :(

If you are progressing and healing then go with that, and just take it easy. No more TMTS.
