Temp 34 degrees

Time: 1:30:37

Pace: 8:15

The 8 mile wind chill made this a tough one. I started at 6:30am, the sun was not fully out, once it peaked I could notice a nice difference with my feet. I may have to start breaking out the five fingers for any runs longer than 60 minutes in cold temps.

29 total miles for the week.

For me I did 13.9 miles this

For me I did 13.9 miles this week, 9.2 of which were barefoot.

Monday-Wednesday I was out sick, Thursday 5.4 miles BF, Saturday 3.8 miles BF, Sunday 4.7 miles in ZEMs.

While BF I am finding a new level of ease and smoothness, and I think speed, in my "first gear".. I never ever need to huff or puff to do a basic run anymore. I don't time myself, though, so I'll have to wait until my next race to see if my speed has changed any.

I am also finding I pretty much can't stand shoes of any kind. Did 4.7 miles in the ZEMs, which are quite minimal, but missed all the sensations, even the pointy gravel. My step was definitely heavier, I had trouble pacing myself, and the whole experience was more mechanical and less intuitive. I'm going to go barefoot into the winter for as long as I can. Maybe when it gets too nasty outside it will be time to focus on another sport. ??

I've been ruined for shoes, basically. No going back. :)

Hmmm, I ran 1.5 on Monday,

Hmmm, I ran 1.5 on Monday, then 1.5 on Tuesday but I had a bruise from coming down on my foot on Monday's run. Ice and rest seem to have taken care of it - still planned to take it easy today, but it turned out it was not a problem. Today I had my first run with a new running partner, a new mom who is trying to get back into it. I ran 4.5 with her, then ran home over a new bridge that just opened yesterday for 6.4. When they designed it, they put in sidewalk for runners and walkers and bike lanes. I could not believe how many negative internet comments there were about that! In any case, the bridge will make running around the city that much easier.

9.4 for the week in VFF's or Protons.

I ran 3.5 miles of trail for

I ran 3.5 miles of trail for the first time this week. I love almost every step. I stubbed my big toe on a root under the leaves, but other than that all is well.

Tomorrow kicks off my Barefoot California run. I plan on running for 3 straight days. One will be at night, one will be mid morning, and the last will be early morning.

BM, Tell us more about your Barefoot California Run. I see you are in Michigan. Are you running for three straight days, or three days in a row? ;-)

wow Silly, that's some serious stuff. 26mi trail run? you go girl!

Zap, woot woot for your first 5k! You're going to rock it!

Stomper, you and me both. I fear I may not be able to run enjoyabley this winter in shoes, though it's a necesary evil, gets way too cold here in MN for barefootin it the whole winter. Sigh.

Awesome job all! Keep up the awesome work, viva la barefoot

I didn't getmy long run in on Saturday, boohoo. I did do 4mi on the treadmill in adizeros, puke. That stunk. Haven't run on the tm since Feb, will take some getting used to again. I'll likely do one run a week on the tm, we'll see though.

Yes, Burt - I'll get one done

Yes, Burt - I'll get one done soon. It was soooo much fun! Gawd, I ate so much food! Bascially, I started binge eating around mile 4 and realized around mile 18 that I should probably stop shoving food down my piehole and finish the freakin' race already.

Regrettably, I only have a couple of pictures. I went all by my lonesome self, so I took a couple of my feet, and a couple in the gym. Although, if you go to the race photogs website here, the huarache'd feet on the lower right of the top pic are mine

He snapped a picture of me running down the trail around mile 8 or so with a banana in one hand and a candy bar in the other.

Please send me your report,

Please send me your report, Silly.

I did 30 miles last week -

I did 30 miles last week - about 8 miles unshod, the rest in VFFs. Both all-time bests for me! Normally, I get in 20 to 25 miles, all in VFFs. Enjoying this web site & the last gasp of pleasant Autumn weather in New Mexico. It's supposed to get MUCH colder tomorrow...

5 miles barefoot today.

5 miles barefoot today. First time I have felt like picking up the pace a little. I also have my first blister I don't know if that is cause for celebration or concern.... Either way 5 mi 42 min on asphalt and no serious issues WAHOO!

I would say it's cause for

I would say it's cause for celebration. You are making progress. Blisters are our friends. They teach us how to run properly. You just receved a lesson in barefoot running the right way.
