I’ve been running barefoot for months now and really enjoying it. Last week I tried to do some speed trials barefoot and by the time I finished my last 30 second drill I have pain in the upper pads of my left foot. It’s been about 6 days and I can finally walk on it without shoes but not far. Nothings broken and I can place weight on the foot it’s when I step off that it hurts. Any ideas as to what I might have done?

Hello :)
I'm new to the site and fairly new to barefoot running (actually still in the vibrams) but I am a runner - could possibly be a stress fracture? but you say nothing is broken. Have you googled metatarsalgia? that sounds pretty suspect but i'm no way a doctor :)
You have more than likely just stressed it out in your speed session - injuries really suck!! Do you have a physio? maybe get them to check it out if it's still no better soon :)

Good advice, Pixi. Welcome!

If it is a stress fracture, I understand it could take up to six weeks to show on an x-ray. Good luck and vibes for you, Pepper.

I picked up a stress fracture a few years back - my physio found it by feeling along the top of the foot bones until he hit the spot and I almost jumped through the roof. Nothing else was really sore, just that one spot. Similar circumstances, but all injuries are different and you probably need to see somebody if you still can't do anything after a week.

It is worth getting somebody medical to check it out, if it is a stress fracture you might need to put it in a boot to immobilise it for a month or two.
