Incredible barefoot runner completes 485 mile Three Peaks Challenge

By Metro

An ultra-endurance athlete ran two marathons per day to break the record for running the famous National Three Peaks in nine days, seven hours and 18 minutes – all barefoot. The barefoot runner Tony Riddle ran more than 450 miles from Mt Snowdon in Wales to Scafell Pike in England, and Ben Nevis in Scotland. The father of four ran up each mountain with nothing on his feet – a total climb of 23 miles combined ascent and descent of the peaks – and for the 400 miles between each mountain on the road, he ran in Vivobarefoot footwear, which allowed him to mimic the barefoot condition with some protection for his feet. Tony, from Camden, London, started the challenge at Mt Snowdon on the 29 August, before reaching the summit of Ben Nevis on Tuesday, beating the previous record by four hours and 31 minutes.

I was surprised by the barefoot distance at first, but then reading better I understood its 23 barefoot miles and 400 shod miles.

I still wonder if its possible to run crazy distances without shoes if you start the barefoot game in your 30's with modern dead feet as I did 7 years ago.

We've had several, long-ago members run 100 miles or more barefoot through different terrain. A couple have also set Guinness World Records. You can find more info about these people in the Ultra forum if you're interested.

thanks TJ, Im gonna look at it,
try to find out if they grew up with lively feet and barefoot adventures,
or started later with dead feet and managed to build them enough for long journeys and various surfaces.
You can search for "Guinness" and 100 mile/100-mile...

These are races that had no break, and there are more on the site, but there are also a lot of runs that had a break in between distances, for example, so and so ran 500 miles but it was broken up over a certain amount of days, or so and so ran a marathon a day for x number of days.

Then there were also two people, one young girl and one young guy, who ran/walked across the United States completely bare, and Anna McNuff who did the same across other countries like Britain.

The list goes on. I've always wanted to have a database of these achievements, and although some people stepped up at the time to put it together, it never took off.
