Hi all, I have starting running on vibram 5 fingers since last 2 months. I was running with Asics and On cloud before that since last 5 years. Now recently I have felt very needle like pain at inner portion of the knee. I have attached the pic labelling the area where I get pain. This pain is not felt during run or post run. This is only felt when I wake up after sleep the next day to my run and somehow I cant straighten my leg from bending. It has happened 3 times now. The pain is too much to handle. The pain remains there for about 15 minutes after I wake up and usually disappears later.

ADeel, I am having trouble getting our docs to this forum, so I'm considering what to do. In the 10 years since the BRS was founded, we have never had this problem. We've always had a doc to respond. Sorry about that.

What I can tell you, and I'm not a doc, is you should see a doctor, get to physical therapy, and do the exercises and stretches they recommend. In the meantime, ice, ice, ice every chance you get. Good luck.

I had a similar pain only mine wasn’t only in the morning. I would feel it after sitting too long at my desk too. I saw a doctor, but it was virtually due to Covid. He said it appeared to be an inflamed tendon, and he recommended I back off a bit (but not entirely) from my runs and that I work to strengthen that area/tendon. One exercise was to lay on my stomach and bend my knee. My boyfriend then holds my foot in place (bent knee) while I try to bend it toward my butt. He provides the resistance holding my foot, so I can’t bend it toward the knee. I feel my hamstring working when I do this exercise, which is what the doctor told me would be felt. The doctor recommended I avoid my standing desk and try to keep the area slightly bent to alleviate the inflammation while adding in the loading exercises (again, all while keeping a bent knee).

Hi there,
This is a very old thread but seeing as I also am still having issues in exactly the same area I thought I would add some more observations.
I recently went to see a physio and he said it was probably an over tight ITB and gave me some dry needling and massage. It felt better temporarily but it is back to its usual pain when I start runnning and maybe easing off after some distance.
Over the New Year I happened to be away with friends in a rented place in the Adelaide hills. The owner had one of the those vibration plates in his garage.
I had a go on that, doing squats with a kettlebell and that seemed to make my knee feel better, so much so I decided to order one for my own home use.
Again whether it turns out to be another blind alley I don't know, all I know is that I will find an answer.
It is nothing to do with cartilidge between the leg bones as it is only apparent if I run, walking is fine. The illustration at the top of the thread was pinpoint accurate. It is on the lower inner edge of the kneecap.
If nothing else the vibration plate will be a usefull fitness tool when the weather is too hot or inclement during the winter.

Regards

Neil
