Thanks, Smogz. I have stickied your thread.

Lots more choices. I’m still contemplating a pair of RA II from VivoBareFoot...it’s not often I need a dress shoe but I’d like to have the option.

I used their Tracker FG’s this winter and came away pretty impressed...if they offer the more insulated version again I’ll likely order a pair for those really cold days.

Sigh...and it looks like there’s no steel toe version minimalist work boot on the horizon for Canadians...

Well, there are two options - cut the heel lower or elevate the front of shoe.. I'm using the latter, I have about 6mm elevation under the ball of foot. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing. I cut it from 4mm thick rubber sheet and pair of vivobarefoot insoles, which I cut so that they are only under the front part of my foot and under the regular insole. Vivo insole is bit longer so that I don't feel the edge of rubber, which can be quite painful.. I have also tried cutting heels lower with previous working shoes, but with last pair I probably cut them too low, and cutting needs to succeed with first try, shoes are pretty much ruined if there's a sideways slant.. Insole elevation is way easier to do and can be moved to new shoes..

Interesting ideas. The only thing that might be an issue for me is if I ever do have an incident at work one of the things they look at is the condition of PPE- modification of any is prohibited and can cause me no end of problems.

I’m contemplating getting a size or two larger when it’s boot replacement time and wearing my FiveToes inside then kicking the boots off when I’m running my equipment.

Also contemplating steelworker boots- I think some of them have a flat sole.

Thanks for the input flammee...

Also added these. Some kind of toesock that according to the maker is indestructible. I don't know.

The little bit of researching these I did kinda points to ecosocks being a cheap knockoff of a more expensive version made by a company called FYF. Interesting concept but the $80 U.S. price tag is a pretty big deterrent for me at this point.

Let me guess ... FYF stands for f* your finances. $80 socks? I think twice about $80 shoes. Of course, I don't like shoes. But then, I don't like socks either. Unless I'm wearing shoes. In which case, I like socks. I wish you'd stop that, I'm getting all confused.
