WonderfulWife said “ Go get your hike on” so I took off for nearby Hornaday Pass. 18 miles of varying terrain, elevation, and scenery.

Seems like the 9-10 mile point is still my limit for barefooting. I reached the turnaround point and had to shoe up (FiveToes) for the return due to my feet feeling overstimulated. The sections of mud, well packed trail, and pine needle carpet were pleasurable but the sections of trail traversing rock slides continue to challenge me. Luckily there were a lot of glacier/snow pack fed Creek crossings to cool off in.

Yes, there’s a trail hidden in here...

I’m six feet tall and had to hunch over in here, had limited room stretching out across...

Stunning.

Traversing sections like this were a little demanding...

Love it! I'm jealous. So beautiful.

Did you run where not a lot of people go? I'm glad to see that no one is damaging the nature or the cabin.

It’s not a well known trail and access is a bit difficult. It was nice to be on a trail and see no societal debris- other than the path and cabin mans impact here is minimal.

That's good to know. Are there trash cans/receptacles placed about?

So, have you ever come across another runner/hiker?

No trash cans, etc. in the more remote areas I go to. At the turnaround point on the hike was a small recreation area for camping...

...I was standing on the gravel road where the trail ends when I took that picture. Just off to the right was Norboe Creek that I’d followed down to from the old cabin (roughly 3 miles), off to the left a couple of hundred feet was an outhouse. Sites like this are chiefly user maintained- generally there’s a couple of spots to park a small trailer or pitch a tent. For the most part they’re kept pretty clean by the users. On the other side of the picnic table was a decent sized fire ring and small stack of firewood left by the last users. The site was very clean...and I had a 45 minute nap on the table (the sound of the stream was like a lullaby).

As for other hikers or runners, none this time. I sometimes see a few people on outings but for the most part it’s just me. Typically depends on how remote I go.

Looks like a great trail. That last pic of the rocks does look a little less fun barefoot lol. I've been up a few very rocky slides but usually there is either a few bigger rocks in there for better footing or at least gaps here and there but that pic looks like all smallish rocks impossible to avoid all the edges and whatnot.

I suspect if I was to tackle a slide like that again it might be a little easier this time, I’ve noticed a dramatic improvement in my ability to handle rocky surfaces in the last few weeks.

Those bigger rocks you mentioned are always happy to encounter.
