Thought maybe we could have a little trophy cabinet in the corner of the pub!
Not to be competitive or anything, but just to see what we can accumulate (or perhaps have already accumulated) between us.
Maybe it'll be interesting to see the variety from different locations, etc...
(or maybe the cabinet will just gather dust -who knows...)

I'll put this one in to start:
Nothing special -Draycote Water 10km -March 2019...

I like this idea, so I stickied it.

I hope to get time to add some myself.

The pirate skull is not my photograph, but that is the medal we took home that year. ☠️
All these races were in Florida, spread out over many years. I have several more but these were among the most unique. The fanciness of the medal is a big determining factor into whether I will join a race.

Those are some cool medals @Kungaloosh Dan !

Interesting timing with this thread. Usually I am modest/timid and don't toot my own horn. While I love running and also competing and pushing for PRs I never really gave much thought to the medals and such. They went on the corner of my mirror on my dresser, but it ended up a pile of about 30 medals or more together, none were really visible lol plus a bunch a just put in a drawer. Well a couple weeks ago I thought I ought to build a display to hold them and show them off more properly. Many of them are so unique and interesting it would discredit the designer not putting them on display right? I thought of something simple like the tie rack or a curtain rod, but it just wouldn't display them nicely the way I envision. So I set out to design something custom, where the width and height of each can be individually adjusted, in multiple layers, with a shelf atop to hold some of the plaques and pint glasses and other finisher things I've received other than medals. I do like to over-engineer things I've been told lol. Used all repurposed wood from breaking down pallets I had. Finally got it built but still making a few tweaks... stay tuned and I'll try to get some pics.

Can't wait to see what you've done!

I put my kids' taekwondo tournament medals over the curtain rod like a valance, and I think it looks amazing! And I don't mind bragging either...they've earned them through blood, sweat, and tears!

So here is what I threw together from some surplus pallets I had hanging around I tore apart. Looks kind of cluttered I apologize, and the wallpaper is kind of busy too. I set out to make a shelf to hold race plaques and items, and hang medals from, but allow medals to lay flat and be adjustable position left/right and up/down. I think this works well, for medals that the ribbon comes out flat...

Medals2-800.JPG

The board at the base is spaced from the back piece to form a slot where the ribbons are fed up through, then I cut several small wedges out of scrap wood and the wedge gets pressed down through the ribbon in the slot to hold it wherever I want.

The front piece is on hinges and opens to set everything in place inside. The hinges and hasp are about the only thing I had to buy at the hardware store, I didn't have anything that small. Also in the small gap at the hinged joint I hung my 1st and 3rd place medals in front of there corresponding finishers medals - well I shifted things slightly so they aren't perfect but were for two of the 18.12 Challenge races that I placed in. All others I placed in I got plaques which are on top (plus one more coming in the mail soon!). I also used the gap at the top of the front panel to attach the small medals from my hometown 5k I do most years, I had a lot of them so thought I'd put them all together. Then I carried on the red white and blue theme and added a few other medals that also had R,W&B ribbons to the front. These are just thumb-tacked to the inside of the board. All the pint glasses and coffee mugs on top were given at races in lieu of medals.

Medals1-900.JPG

I also have a separate board with nails for the medals where the ribbon forms more of a 'V' and want to hang more naturally in that orientation, but you can't see the ribbons that well (most of those ones are plain anyhow). I got the medals to lay mostly flat by running a strip of scotch tape across the backs of them.

The main rack is the width of the pallet, I think it was around 3 1/2 feet. I have room for about 3 more medals. I was debating on painting it, but after lightly sanding I think I'll just leave it raw finish. Plus I don't want to tear all that back down!

As far as which one I think is coolest? Well since I am a big fan of the Marvel movies and Thor is a favorite, the medal from my Viking Dash 5k which is Thor's hammer Mjolnir is one of my favorites. And it's not just flat like a medal its actually made very thick, with nice details and inscriptions.

I love it, and it's aesthetically pleasing to the eye! I don't think you could have made it any better.

Have you seen the Endgame yet?

No Spoilers!
I am going this weekend to see it :D
I saw in the news where some guy who just finished watching the movie told the crowd in front waiting to go in the outcome of the movie; needless to say, he had to go to the hospital after that.

Wow what a collection! (certainly puts my odd one here & there into the shade...;)).
Did you get all of those barefoot or are there any pre-transition in there?..
Thanks! I really don't run that many races, some years 2 or 3 other years maybe 5. But they add up! I started running in 2008 and my first race was that September. I started barefoot in 2011, and my first barefoot race in '12. So there are just a few medals shod, mainly on the lower nail board, plus I've run maybe 5 or 6 in minimalist shoes during winter. But all the big medals on the main rack are all barefoot, and every plaque and race I've placed in has been all barefoot.

Thanks, you're too kind TJ! I just saw it Thursday... had to stay up late to get myself ready for nightshifts I am working this weekend so decided to go see the 11pm showing on the XD screen, there was only 1 other person in the theater on a Thursday night!

Wow! One person?! Maybe everyone in your area already saw the movie.

What is the significance of the fighter aircraft and the race car?
Ah yes, good question..
The race was sponsored by Moog -they’re an aerospace & engineering group. U.S. owned I think, but they have a factory in Tewkesbury, which the run route takes you past (probably should have mentioned that). They supply parts to the NASCAR race series too. -one of the cars was parked up on show at the finish area... to give the spectators something more interesting to look at than a bunch of sweaty runners I think...;)...
