I wonder if sockwas would be good for running a 5k. I'm seriously thinking of doing it even though I'm not presently a runner. (The 5k is near the end of April.)

If you're running in cold temps, then thick sole is what you want. Running for 10 years in Edmonton Alberta area and you want insulation between your feet and ground! Tried everything minimalist and my feet froze!

Thank you very much for your replies.

I live where the lows rarely go below 20 degrees. These last two weeks have been really cold for this area, and the highs have been in the upper 30s and lower 40s. (That's farenheit. I don't know the formula for changing it to Celsius.)

I have been running in my sockwas, and they have worked great. One day, there was slushy snow so my feet got a bit wet, but it was tolerable.

Sockwas are my shoes of shoes here in winterpeg. Just like bill said a thicker sole when the temps hit colder -20C°. Also a good pair of merino wool socks will go a long way in keeping you comfortable.

I take my hat off to you!! If you can run in -20C with those and a pair of socks, you're a better man than I! Lol! I used neoprene water shoes for the longest time, with extra socks, and just lived with froze toes! Have since switched to Altra Superior 2.0. Far from minimalist, but proprioception goes out the window when you can't feel your feet!
