Here's an account of hiking seven peaks barefoot in New York's Adirondack Mountains. These mountains have a mix of trails, and in some places they're some of the worst trails I've ever seen: straight up or down the mountains, totally washed out, tumbled rocks and tangled roots, and everything muddy and slick. Having said that, as long as you can tolerate a slow pace, the trails are reasonably forgiving for bare feet, since there's lots of dirt and mud, and the typical Adirondack rock (anorthosite) tends to be pretty smooth. And sometimes the trails are nice....

Nice report, Tristan, really pretty pictures. Good luck completing the 46 barefoot, a very worthy goal, you should enjoy Dial and Nippletop. I may sneak up there again in early October

October should be great if you catch it when the leaves are changing. But the crowds can be crazy, don't expect any solitude especially on the more popular trails on the weekends. Great to meet another barefoot ADK hiker! Such a beautiful area though you got to work to get to those views sometimes. Sometimes you have to do a whole lot of work and get no view (Blake for example, since you mentioned that one).

Thanks for sharing. Love the pictures!
