Boulder and I had a most excellent 4 mile run Tuesday at 5:00 am 75 deg. f. 95% Rh.
Slight mist through most of the run.

Just back from a good run: 5 miles unshod, including a trying 1.8 miles on chip and seal pavement, that went at a far faster pace than I normally run but with no real extra exertion. I’m not bragging — 12 mins/mile isn’t fast — but going for two 12+ mile runs over the last two weeks has definitely increased my capacity. I’m glad to chalk up a win for common training wisdom. Glorious late fall weather, warm but not hot, low angled sunlight over my shoulder, golden trees and smiles on everyone’s faces.

Got a few kudos for going barefoot from some presumably homeless guys climbing out from under a bridge. I’m really not trying to be a radical or a revolutionary, but going barefoot seems to send that message. It might be an interesting way to bridge cultural divides, which my country sorely needs right now ... will have to think on that.

Also did a nice slow jog up into the hills and then along some trails earlier in the week. I used to have to spend all day hiking to get up there, and now I just have to spend half the day to see the same things. Haven’t done that route unshod yet as it goes through the city and then sees a lot of gravel, but I’m working up my courage. Also on that run, I bonked for the first time in decades. I hate the feeling but I love that I’ve developed the physical capacity to push myself that hard.

Overall, 19.5 miles of running this week plus 1.7 miles of walking, and over 100 miles of total running this year. I really can’t say how pleased I am to be running again. Could just be, though, that the endo-feelgoods are strong with me.

Jon -sounds like you're doing pretty good to me!...:)
Not a bad week here. Did a couple of short runs midweek -5.3km on Monday & 5.5km on Thursday. Then 21.5km on Sunday -completed my first half marathon in the pouring rain! That was an interesting experience. Very cold and wet waiting to get started, but ok once we got going. A good surface mostly all the way for BF -all roads & pathways. -Felt really comfortable for around 80% of the distance, but the last couple of miles were harder going. Finished ok though, so now just waiting for the body to recover;)...

On Sunday we spotted wood peckers and lots of water fowl.
We haven't got out this week it has been pouring rain and temps went down in the mid 40 deg. f., which is normally not bad but maybe just taking a short break.

75 degrees and 95% humidity at 5 am sounds like the Texas I’m familiar with, but 40 degrees, pouring rain, and lots of birds makes Dallas sound nice. I hope you continue to get more of the good stuff!

Yes indeed! The skin on my soles still feels prickly and sensitive from all that rough pavement, but the only problem I’m having so far that might eventually derail me is having too much enthusiasm.

Congrats on completing the half! I’d be interested to read any insights you might have gained from it.

Thank you..
I've put some thoughts on a thread in the races & events section...
