Agreed! The amputation didn't dissuade him in the slightest it seems, and right back at it!
Just to clarify, it does not appear he was a barefoot runner, the fact he was shoeless at -40º was a result of severe hypothermia effecting his mind. At first I thought he was and was quite surprised when I read he signed up for it with no cold weather experience, "Zanda had only seen snow once in his life, back in 1984" the article states, but in another article it says he was well equipped for the cold but just ignored the signs of hypothermia. Sometimes toughness, which is required to be an ultra runner (especially mental toughness) can get you in trouble in these situations. Very lucky he survived, it certainly sounded like a near death experience for sure, wow!
