Head Lamps?

How about these?

Notice the serious Morton's Toe.

You're teasing me, Adam.

You're teasing me, Adam. Those are head lights I put on my feet as a joke over in "that other place" a long time ago.

The Morton's Toe is the second toe on each of my feet. Crazy long and out of control. They don't like hanging out with toesies #3 at all, as you can tell.

I've not used a head lamp

I've not used a head lamp but I'm considering looking into one this year. I have one that I use for work around the house it's a simple strap with foam on the forehead, I might give it a try.

I can be really gullible, I wasn't teasing! lol! I have a super long second toe as well, it surpasses my big toe. How's it going with that? I did read that you went off some medication, or something like that. Any improvements?

Check the "I'm so pissed!"

Check the "I'm so pissed!" thread for an update as of yesterday, but as of today, I feel like I've reverted backwards and am in quite a bit of pain today.

Check to see if your second toe's metatarsal is longer than your first toe's by bending your toes down and examining them to see where the knuckles line up. If so, then join us over at the thread "Fellowship of the Morton's Toe" which is stickied at the top of the Injuries & Medical Conditions Forum. Hee.

What would be the point of

What would be the point of ankle lamps? Haha. I'm pretty sure that would just make it harder to see because the light would be constantly flying around everywhere. (Yes I realize they aren't actually ankle lamps, but the idea is just ridiculous.)

Of course it is, Danjo.

Adam, are you running with a

Adam, are you running with a flashlight right now? I run with a flashlight and/or a headlamp. We're big campers, and probably have a half-dozen different headlamps amongst us. (People always think to get us headlamps for gifts. Truly, they are all appreciated since sometimes we can't find one.) They all work. Some are more comfortable than others but they are all good for an hour or so. If they get uncomfortable, you can take them off and hold them in your hand.

Personally, I most often run with the one that has a "flash" option. If I run into sunrise, the flasher helps cars see me more than the light will.

Flashlights have it over headlamps in that they can be used to beat off dogs. This is a big problem for me in the winter. In the winter, people will let the dogs out and stand inside in a towel skirt with a cup of coffee. Of course, the dog knows the drill and doesn't want to go back inside, so chases me instead. The owner won't come out to get the dog because he/she isn't dressed.

Silly C:   I don't run with a

Silly C: I don't run with a flash light, I actually saw another runner using one a few weeks ago. That is someting to thing about, but the light seemed to be bouncing all over the place. I will try it though, I literally can't see my hand in front of my face because that's how dark it is on some of my routes, and I am barefoot so I have no idea where Im stepping at. I do know the roads, but it's still can be risky.

Funny you mentioned dogs, and thank goodness for electrical fences. On my run this morning,I pass this yard and out of nowhere this massive german shepard (at least I thought it was a german shepard) makes a b-line towards me and stops right at the edge of lawn. It was pouring raining as well, and I say the owner underneath his porch, he probably was laughing.

Was probably a shod runner

Was probably a shod runner bouncing the flash light... My head phones never fall out anymore now that I run barefoot, because my stride is smoother than I ever imagined was possible. So I plan to use a flash light for my dark runs.

I have one from REI that

I have one from REI that does the job. I don't really like them, but it beats the alternative. I think it was $20? Dh lost it while he was hunting and got another decent one at Fry's (electronics, not sure if all states have them) for $15. It's also nice. My features that I look for are 1. COMFY and adjustable 2. super bright 3. tilts up and down

A necessary evil, I think, but it also adds to the safety factor when you're running pre-dawn.

Mike's right - the flashlight

Mike's right - the flashlight doesn't bounce now that I run barefoot. It did when I was shod, but now, I don't even have to close my fist around it to keep in in my hand.

I got pretty messed up from a run when my batteries wore out. I stepped in a pothole and went down HARD. I was a bloody mess. I had roadrash on my face and arms, and was a mess of gore on my knee and leg. Fortunately, no permanent damage, but my knee hurt for about 6 months afterwards (I could still run - it hurt when I kneeled on it).

That one looks great! Thanks for the link. I've just started looking into getting a headlamp and so far this one looks like a winner to me. Any other suggestions before I place an order? I'll probably make a purchase decision this weekend.

Peace,

Karen
