Anyone else experience this while running? I was heading along a bike path -- well to the right and allowing for bicyclists' right-of-way -- when I heard someone behind me angrily grumble, "You gotta get some shoes, pal". I turned and saw a cyclist approaching. As he passed, he yelled, "You're crazy!" and kept going. Nothing friendly in his tone at all.

I replied, "Thanks much! Have a nice day!"

Anyone else get this kind of hostility from people for our choice of "footwear"?

Never had that kind of reaction. I ran into someone the other day I hadn't seen for a long time while walking my dog - and I had sneakers on - and the reaction was - "Hey dude - you forgot to not put your shoes on!"
You just gotta think the dude you ran into is having a bad day/week/month. Takes a lot of energy to be that miserable. I think your reaction was spot on.

I only had one negative reaction in all the time I ran barefoot that I can remember.

I was at the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta, GA, the largest 10K field. A guy thought he'd be a prick to me, so he runs up beside me to "inform" me that I shouldn't run barefoot because I could get cancer. He said, "Bob Marley got cancer from running barefoot and died." What a complete dumb ass! :asshat: Bob Marley had melanoma skin cancer. If the ignoramus ever goes outside without covering up from head to toe, on the right day (or wrong day), he could get skin cancer too. :barefoot:

The misconceptions about bare feet out there are incredible!

On a side note, I was reading that Jenna Duggar was getting a lot of crap from people because she allows her children to walk around barefoot. People just don't realize that under most circumstances, it's best to let a child be barefoot so their feet develop healthfully, naturally. They don't realize the damage that they are doing to their children's feet by encasing them in foot coffins.

Just continue to be positive and stay true to who you are. Forget about the rest.

The only time that I recall is a young guy driving with his girlfriend in the passenger seat crossed the white line in front of me. I run facing traffic for this reason. I yelled something and put my hands up in the WTF manner. He swerved back on to the road then yelled "put some f'ing shoes on." I was surprised he noticed considered his lack of attention driving. His girlfriend leaned out the window and yelled "sorry".

Wow. The lengths people will go to to condemn others is pretty remarkable.

Barefooting can give you cancer. Well, that's a new one on me. Where do they hear this stuff?

Lol... at least he has someone to apologize for his stupidity. Hope she doesn't make a career out of it.

Never any agression, but had a lady look at me the other night like I was satan running with her daughter!! Awful look on her face! Felt like saying "smile, I'll pay for the stitches"! Didn't, just ran on.

I bet she doesn't look at people like that at the beach or the pool.
