on the 6th Marburg Barefoot-Running Workshop
in the framework of the 8th International Barefoot Running Day (IBRD)
on Sunday, May 6th, 2018


Local Host: Laufschule Marburg (The Marburg Running School)
Organizing team: Martin Güngerich (gueng), Emelie Landmann (Emelie) and Katrin Kusche (Katrin Kusche)
Meeting point: Entrance of Georg Gassmann Stadium in Marburg, State of Hesse, Germany

Programme
  • Welcome by Martin Güngerich; short note on the Marburg Running School, the BRS and the ideas behind IBRD.
  • Distribution of light backpacks for shoe transportation to the participants.
  • Introductory talk (Martin Güngerich):
    Biomechanical and evolutional considerations on barefoot running.
  • Run through the stadium, fields and Marburg residential areas, paused by short notes:
    • Instructions for healthy running form including co-ordinative workouts (Martin Güngerich)
    • Experience reports by a long-time barefoot runner (Katrin Kusche) and a barefoot-running newbie (Judith Sikora).
    • How to deal with (perceived) risks of barefoot running (Martin Güngerich).
    • Barefoot running on different terrains and under adverse conditions (Martin Güngerich).
    • Treatment of minor (external) injuries (Emelie Landmann).
  • Return to the starting point at 1:45 p.m.;
    conclusion of the workshop with drinks, snacks and final short note:
    • Barefoot at running competitions - what to consider? (Werner Zittlau and Lee Kirsten)
Participants (including instructor team): 37 (16 female und 21 male)

Distance run: 7 km.
Running surfaces: asphalt and concrete pavement of different qualities, meadow path, stadium track
