As someone who used to make chainmail and is a BFR- I think these are a very bad idea.

They may "last a lifetime" under certain limited conditions, like in the environments shown in the video - but as soon as the rings start to abrade from use on concrete, asphalt, etc (which they will), there will be rough edges that will only get sharper until the rings completely wear through. At which point, you run the risk of those broken rings working their way into the skin of your feet (tiny little shards of stainless steel...). And as someone who has had to pick metal splinters out of their fingers - this is NOT a pleasant thing...

Yeah even I think it's a bad idea. Wooden splinters are one thing, but metal splinters are even MORE dangerous.
