My favorite part about barefoot summer days is when you aren't required to have anything cover your feet all day and just feel free! What are your favorite parts about barefoot summers?
Feeling the warm ground, the warm air, and the contrast between sunny and shady areas. And running in summer rain! That's a major difference to all other seasons - liking the rain.
I have been running barefoot for almost three(?) years. The first 1-1/2 years spent getting my calves and achilles to be conditioned for forefoot landing. Fortunately, Oakland is almost perfect for year-round barefoot running even with four seasons. Yes, summer runs are particularly great since you can feel the changes in the ground as the hours of the day pass and also as you go from shaded areas to sunny areas (no- I don't run 'round the clock). Runners wearing shoes completely miss out on the changes in the ground that we get to experience. Rainy days? Amazing.
