Age

39 years young, been running

39 years young, been running for almost a year (1 year anniversary in Nov), completely barefoot since April (with the occasional VFF run when feet were a little to tender), have completed 3 half marathons, 1 full marathon and running first ultra (50 km) next weekend. Having the time of my life.

This is an awesome thread,

This is an awesome thread, running must really keep you young, I had most of you (at least the ones with pictures of your face, not so good at judging age by feet, haha) pegged at least 5-10 years younger than you claim!

I'm 23, have been a fat kid most of my life who hated running, only doing it when required by school. About 3 years ago I saw a dramatic increase in my walking when I lost most of my vision and walking became my primary mode of transportation. I officially 'started running' back in May, about a week before my friend drug me along on my first 10k, where I realized how much fun it can be. I started running bf a few months ago, which has made it even more enjoyable (if not frustrating at times).

I'm 294 in dog years, and my 9 years of Army sometimes make it feel like people years. The Army in general and months or years in combat in the Middle East will put some mighty hard miles on a body. I'm just glad to be able to still run, even 50% slower.

I'm 23.

I started running as a lil kid but puberty came and kicked my chubby lil ass! I joined a several CC Teams and embarrassed myself heartily though middle & high school. Never liked CC, because I sucked so bad :) SO, I've really been running 5 years, starting on my own in college. I would run during summer break when the campus was empty and haunted.

Going on 1/2 a year of barefooting. And obviously I'm taking it really slow because I just ran my first barefoot 5K. Hoping to get back to my half marathons and beyond next year (maybe....!)

I'm 34 and have been running

I'm 34 and have been running off and on for the last few years. When I was 18 I joined the Army where, for 7 years, I was running about 3-4 miles a day. Then I got off active duty, joined the National Guard, and my mileage dropped to about 4mi a year! I hated running! Which was sad because it really was the one athletic thing I did that I actually enjoyed once. I was on my second deployment last year and I vowed to get back into shape again. I was going to the gym every day for at least two hours, but I still wasn't running. Then I read Born To Run. I've been home for almost a year now and finally think I'm at a point where I can start enjoying running again. My goal is a marathon in November 2011.

I started running in May of this year and kicked off my shoes in June. Without shoes I finally felt like I was learning something, getting feedback from my body. And I was happy to find that barefoot runners care about their form and share info online.

Just like me.

I only run BF, on hard surfaces, my weekly mileage averages at 18 miles. In two days I am running my very first race, Run like Hell Portland! (10k).

Ryan W. from Vancouver, WA here. I turn 57 in two weeks. In August I started my 7th year as a barefoot runner.

You're right! I believe

You're right! I believe running barefoot DOES help keep you young!

My massage therapist says I have the hips of a 24 year old. I didn't know what that meant, so she explained that as people age, their hips often start to loosen and get weakened. But mine were still as solid and strong as ever.

I have taken the real age test on the computer, and even though my actual age is almost 57, it says my comparable age is 42. That might not make some people very happy, but I'll take it!

Ryan

Hey, Danjo Did you know that

Hey, Danjo

Did you know that two brothers ran the Duke City Marathon barefoot last year and took 1st and 2nd places out of everybody!?

My wife grew up in Albuquerque - according to her, that whole state is just plain magical!

That would be Alex and Julian

That would be Alex and Julian Romero (respectfully, in that order), Ryan. Julian is a member here but doesn't post. Wish he would take the time to say hello. Hi, Julian!

rdwhitaker: Wow, 7 years BF!

rdwhitaker: Wow, 7 years BF! Excellent! I'm about to start my 7th month.

MikeT: Good for you! The first several runs are always the most diffecult to explain. It just keeps getting better. (See above, rtwhitaker)

I'm pretty sure that makes you the second oldest member of the BRS, and the second longest term continous BFRunner here after Victor.

Don't forget about Ken Bob.

Don't forget about Ken Bob. He's not just a member, he's on the Board. How long as he been running barefoot now? Centuries I'm sure. In fact, he was running barefoot in his previous lives. Hee.

Preston Curtis has been running a couple years longer than Victor.

So, who's the oldest, Board? You? Hee.

I am the oldest......so

I am the oldest......so far....but only 3 1/2 months older than Ryan.

I predict that by Thanksgiving though my title will change hands in this rapidly growing group.

I'm 24, been running shod on and off for about 3 years, barefoot only since this October. These last few years are the first time I've challenged my misconception that I had "terrible" asthma that would never allow me to be a runner. Glad to have thrown that one out the window ^_^

He's probably counting running down the hall from his Kindergarten room to the milk machine barefoot.

Have Jason check Michigan school records for a disciplinary report in order to document his claim.

21 years old

Ran shod for a year, injured self due to an inherent muscle imbalance between quads/hamstrings coupled with weak glutes (aided and abetted by those darned shoes probably). Fixed the problem, got lazy, stopped doing the exercises, took up BFR during the summer, did TMTS, aggravated the older problem, and got an inflammation in the knee that never went away. Went 2 months without doing anything about it due to a busy term in university.

New term of university starts, I spend a month recovering the knee, and now I'm starting back BFR allll the way at the beginning, again.

I sure won't make the mistake of doing too much too soon or slack off on exercise again. I've learned my lesson :stare:
