After 18 months, and a full marathon, I got my first true barefoot injury. On Wednesday, running early morning, I stepped on a loose screw on a boardwalk. It tore a nice triangle of skin under my forefoot. I must have been coming in for the step when I landed. I finished the run, another 3km's.

When I got back I got some scissors and cut the skin off because it was irritating, and I wanted to see how the thick the skin was. At least 3mm maybe 4!! (And about 10mm long) I was seriously impressed! The hole just touched the nerve layer but no bleeding.

It was kinda sore but I had a running appointment on Thursday- did 2h but wore my Inov8 shoes because that course involves 2km of grid metal and even at the best of times, its kinda sore on barefoot especially on the downhill direction.

This morning, Friday, did a fast 10k barefoot and it was fine- just made me remember to bend my knees more. Have a 20k tomorrow and I am leading a 10k run with my running group on Sunday.

So that's that! People seriously over-rate the danger of puncture wounds while running barefoot.

Sorry no pictures as it would look slightly unimpressive!
