1st snow of the season

Wow seems awfully late for the north east! I know my folks in northern NY have had some really big snowstorms all the way back at least in December. Here too, but our snow storms are only a couple inches at a time rather than feet!
I don't know what's going on but whatever it is, at least the spring season looks pretty promising temperature wise.

This is my first winter in North Country and this lake effect snow is no joke! the first big snow was right before Thanksgiving. so far every other week it seems there's been a good dump of snow, melts just enough for some grass to poke through and then another storm rolls through.

Western NY gets lake effect snow.
This is always what people assume, but northern NY like around my folks and where Makamaespm is gets quite a lot more. I think people tend to remember western NY because of Buffalo, not really any big cities in northern NY, just small cities and towns.

It's a tight band of lake effect so depending on the specific weather pattern some areas get dumped on but 10 miles away they get little.

For example here are some random screenshots I've taken the last couple years when I hear it's stormin' back home...

They just got hammered last week, one of my friends posted this on Facebook Saturday, apparently they had got 6' of snow since Wednesday!
FB_IMG_1486251034254.jpg That shot I believe was from the town of Redfield. They had barely any snow a week ago!

I'm not to familiar with Massachusetts despite it being only across the border, never visited, but it appears much more protected from snowfall. Had a friend that moved to Massachusetts after HS but I lost touch. I've traveled up around in Vermont and New Hampshire, love the White Mountains! I have a friend from Jay, Vermont, and I think they get even more snow there somehow. It's a lot of work dealing with all the white stuff. Pretty, and fun to ski and sled, but when you have to get up an hour early in the morning to go out and fire up a snowblower and be out in zero degree temps with windblown snow in your face isn't fun!

I'm toying with the idea of moving back to NY after my son is on his own, I really love the north country and all my family is up there. But too much snow and not enough jobs - at least in my field. I'm thinking I got a shot at a good job in Albany and maybe live towards the southern Adirondack Mountains. I so want a nice quite country setting near the mountains where I can jog and cycle on the country roads and hike and paddle in the mountains on my days off. I love the Adirondacks. Someday maybe!

Hope things are going well for ya @Makamaespm you're just a stones throw away from my stompin' grounds. I'm not sure how far it is for ya but if you're looking for a nice place to run my favorite local place is Wehle Park in Henderson, sits right on the lake and trails along cliffs over the lake and a couple spots where you can go right out on the lake on the bedrock.

Here on the West Coast we rarely get any snow in winter but this year is quite different. Have been enjoying every moment running barefoot on snow over here so far, have to grab every opportunity while it lasts ;-)

I spent a rather long weekend in Lake George many years ago, beautiful place, would be a wonderful area to live.

Winter in New England has officially begun.
Our winter snow started this morning.
In anticipation, and just for crazy contrast, yesterday was sunny and 65F. I took advantage of the wonderful day and got in a 4.5 mile BF run at my favorite venue, Valley Forge National Park. My feet hadn't been skin to ground in 6 weeks and were quite surprised.

Yeah, we had a nice big storm here in Cambridge.
I saw on the news New England was getting hit pretty hard! Hang in there!

Yeah we had a good rollercoaster effect this week. We hit about 60F in central Ohio back on Tuesday I think it was? Then 2 days later we bottomed out around 9 or 10F and got a few inches of snow down, now back up in the 50's! Can't complain too much about the warm days though, but they're bringing rain with em each time. Going to try and get a nice run in today while it's warm and still dry.
