Tuesday... 90 minutes... 21.03 mile ride (2444 ft climbed) on The Pretzel on Zwift, followed by 38 minutes, 4.07 mile run on treadmill.

I increased my average cycling power by 5 watts and it went quite well, and so i tried upping the treadmill speed by .2 mph and at 27 minutes the suffering began, managed to keep it going until 38 minutes when i decided to warm down with a 7 minute walk.

So plan is to keep the bike at that level and let the running catch up to 1 hour again before increasing any further.

We have had the most snow here in 100 years this last month, and it is still falling. Last I looked it was about to bury my 30 inch tall raised beds. I managed one run outside last week,on a shoveled 1/2 mile path outside the gym, but it has also been super cold. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 10 degrees F. So, no barefoot running for me yet this year, since the gym that I can go to requires footwear so far. At least they let me just wear Sockwas. I have been alternating between the 5 loops = 1 mile track and the treadmill. Can't seem to abide too many runs in a row under the same confinement!

Monday I had a short lived virus, but

was back to the spin bike on Tuesday, then, my two youngest girls have wanted to do ab workouts with me, so that should help with the winter.

Running on Wednesday, doing 4 miles on the treadmill. Had to shovel the walkway to my swimming pool, but swam my approximate half mile Wed also.

Today, Thursday, was another spin bike in the basement and ab workout day.

I am also happy to report that my one daughter's frostbite is healing well. Many thanks to Rick Roeber for his encouragement to her.

5 mile run Tuesday 57 deg. f. 63 % Rh.
3 mile run Thursday 35 deg. f. 75 % Rh.
Both runs were with Boulder he wore a little coat Thursday .

Monday was a day off, just some stairs at work on the nightshift. Tuesday an easy 4.5 miles in pretty warm conditions but still a bit under the 50F threshold for the winter challenge, very foggy went to the trail to run so no mishaps with cars in low visibility. Wednesday temps plummeted overnight, and windy. Feels like temp was around 9F when I ran. It was sunny out and hoping the road surface temp was a bit warmer still from yesterday so went barefoot. Feet were a little chilled but no problem for a short 2.2 mile run down the road and back. Yesterday about the same feels like temperature but lower actual temperature (less wind) and about 3" of snow. It was coming down pretty good at the time, light fluffy stuff. Not good for running, I decided to lace up for this one. Actually I packed all my running clothes and gear since I had to pick my son up from school and I was currently in carhart bib, jacket, and steel toes. I dropped him off at my ex's and got changed into my running clothes... realized I forgot my shoes. Well I always have a few pairs of something in my truck. Too cold for sandals, vff's would soak up that fluffy snow to quick, but I had my Lems Boulder boots which I actually ran in once before so on they went. To be honest I might like running in those boots better than their running shoes! They worked fine for the 5 miles I ran in 2-3" of snow.

Want to get out there today but not sure. The snow on my road is packed down hard now I could run it except right now it's a feels like -13F  don't think that is going to happen. Suppose to warm up to 4F but that doesn't help a whole lot, not trying to run on snow. We'll see.

Wow @happysongbird hope you don't get snowed in! And good news about your daughter that looked pretty terrible. :coldfeet:

Ok, where was I
15 barefoot miles for me so far all on the indoor track I might do a longer run on the dreadmill this coming weekend...maybe.

Saturday, finally back up to Olympic brick after my IT band issues of last year and did my best time - although last time was outdoors so can't really compare, but still super happy with how things are going with the recovery.

90:26 39.89 km ride (429 meters climbing) Zwift London 8 course followed by 59:35 10 km run on treadmill.

And now begins the work to 70.3 which i had to stop last year to fix the IT band.

and some question:
There is a ted talks from chris mcdougall that mention barefoot ted's daily training about 3-4 miles and no more, but impressively do an ultra 100 miles in less than 24hrs. cmiiw
How's your daily training's miles in barefoot? did you just run with no training Program (and what I mean by this is you stop when your body tells it. like barefoot 'orthodox' ways)? or made some goals in a week but with mileage limit?

I do have a training program, however...

Your training should reflect your goals, and be very sensible about it. Listen to your body, more than anything listen to your body, don't set a target date for your goals, if it ain't happening today then it ain't happening today, fuck the training plan. Trying to force it will only damage you. I spent quite some time in the British Army and it was all 'no pain no gain' philosophy and it took me a very long time to repair the damage done to my body because of that.

Remember, recovery and good nutrition is just as, if not more, important than training. Eat lots of fresh fruit and veg and go to bed early and awake naturally. If you need an alarm clock to awake you then you need to go to bed earlier.

10km this morning to finish off the week.
Seemed to be one of those days where for some reason I didn't feel as comfortable as I normally do. Had to keep reminding myself to concentrate on my form. -No real explanation (occasionally I guess you're just not 'in the zone'). So I just took it steady & finished with a fairly level pace, albeit pretty sluggish:rolleyes:..
Quite a few other runners out and about today (all said hello, which is nice:)) -must be start of training season!....

That's good to hear HSB...

Good question, where have you been?
Nice to see you, btw :p

As much as I wanted to test my cold limits out there today I decided the cold and snow would be too much and I had 3 days running so just stayed in - about an hour on the bike on rollers for 15 miles.

Working, where else?:p
Are you having those horrible -25 wind chills too?
10 miles on the mill Saturday.

Didn't have anything to post during the holiday week before this: Partially it was some inclement weather, but holiday observances and the visits of two brothers, my own kids and nieces and nephews kept me pretty busy. I have made it to yoga quite a bit, often doing the walk to the gym in my Xeros.
This first full week in January of 2017 I managed one full loop of Central Park and maybe a little more in heavy cold rain, say 6.2 miles, in the Xeroshoe Do-it-yourselfs. That was Monday or Tuesday. I got pretty soaked. Then on Thursday night I did my long 12-mile barefoot run from Brooklyn to Manhattan at night. By 35 minutes into the run, the snow flurries had started. Between the salt crystals and the snow, it slowed me down to 3 hours and seven minutes for the whole thing. My toes were definitely numbing quite a bit and it took a while to get feeling fully back. I did my Qi-kung and yoga breathing to try to mindfully keep qi/prana circulating to the extremities. The wetness and the salt definitely took its toll: The salt made me much more susceptible to a side-of-the-heel callous crack, which I've since been treating with extra rubs of olive oil. And I seem to have been numb enough not to have noticed how badly I had scraped the tip of my left second toe. I kinda remember some scrape, I think, and it seems to have been wet enough that the soft skin blistered up fairly easily. There have been worse storms since with significant snow on the ground and I've been recovering, so we'll see if I get out much next week. But at least I've started barefootin' my way to the gym. So for this week it's 18.2 miles; 12 miles barefoot, all under 50 degrees As always, there are artificial sources of heat, but on my 12-miler I didn't feel the need to go inside any shops or subway stations to warm my tootsies and basically ran the whole thing straight, although here and there I may have paused over a subway grate or steam vent. That's what makes NYC such a safe place to run in cold weather, complete with friendly natives offering me socks...
