President Trump

If ever there was a time that a 3rd party and independent candidate would have had a chance and they got nothing. The media focuses on just the two main parties, and the political battle between them was such a hit on all the social media. It's a shame we couldn't have promoted and included some of the other candidates more.

Not possible under our system. This very interesting book explains why. https://www.amazon.com/Gaming-Vote-...id=1479053632&sr=1-1&keywords=gaming+the+vote Two parties that are virtually indistinguishable from one another result from a winner-takes-all system. And that's what we have. The main difference between Republicans and Democrats is marketing and spin. Neither party comes close to representing my beliefs.

And chill, everyone. I predict that President Trump will be very different from the President Trump the media made you fear. The media has both an agenda and an incentive to sensationalize everything because they sell advertising. Every story you see is wrong in one or more fundamental ways. Even if they're right, and he really is the reincarnation of Adolf Hitler, he won't be able to do a darn thing because the Republicans hate him too. Gridlock. But gridlock is good. Look at Obama - he got one thing done in 8 years. Obamacare. Which is a disaster. The less our government accomplishes, the better. Why should a Trump presidency be any different? I predict 8 years of same old, same old.

I may not be happy with the fact that our president is someone who fired Shawn Johnson on a reality TV show, but even that part is irrelevant. The only thing we can do is pray and come together. And last night on 60 Minutes, he had a totally different take on things. Even telling his supporters to stop dissing people. But even so, us barefooters wonder if we'll get our rights to live a barefoot lifestyle.

I was just thinking this weekend how nice it was to visit this website and it was so free of all the political junk I see everywhere else I turn my eyes these days. I'm proud that this site has been clean over the past few month. I am not all surprised to see something finally pop up and am very glad we do have a place to vent. I better not tell you who I voted for or I many of you might decide to put shoes on for the first time in years just to stomp on my toes. :D

We do have three branches of government and Trump will only be able to do what the other branches allow, so it will not be all bad. Like Tyler J L says, the only thing we can do is pray and come together.

Gordon had some good things to say and I agree with him, especially on third parties. If you really look at this election it had more 3rd parties than appeared. Sanders was not a real democrat, and yet he made a huge difference in the democrat's platform. And I don't see Trump as a real republican either. Only Hillary truly was of the party she claimed to be. Looking further down the ticket was Johnson (more republican than Trump) and Stein was a mirror of a Democrat. McMullin was also very Republican. So the third parties that were running were only running cause they didn't make the main ticket.

Oh yeah I agree. There is just a part of me that thinks if we had some really good third party candidates that actually get taken seriously that maybe some reform to the system could happen. But I know it'll likely never happen. To be honest I am pretty much against the 2 party system and will likely never vote for either, so my vote pretty much never counts.*sigh*

I also think people get way too worked up over it, it's not like he is single-handedly in control of everything and can do whatever he wants. People just overreact. Then again riots break out over football games

Dana yep agreed how it was nice this site was all tied up with that nonsense, but fine to have a little discussion here in the pub after the fact. In the last few years I've pretty much tuned out the media altogether. I couldn't even tell you the last time I watched tv other than when someone has it on at work, and I turn the radio on in the car maybe less than once a month. I just like peace and quite, and if I want to watch a movie, a show, or listen to music, I'll specifically watch just that show, movie, or song without watching public tv or radio. Too much crap on there to risk my blood pressure rising, just not worth the trouble lol. Biggest problem that remains is all my crap in my facebook feed. I like to follow friends and family and old acquaintances but some of them just keep posting crap after crap. I hate to unfollow, I just got to scroll right past it.

Give me a cabin in the woods far from civilization and I'll be happy as can be :D

Trust me, Dana, I hear you. Everyone, please know, I've been watching this thread very closely.

This is the first political discussion thread on this site, and I really hope it's the last one. (Unless a platform is dedicated to these subjects, which this one is clearly not, then religion and politics are not discussed.) At first, I thought, do I delete it, lock it with a notation, or let it be and see how it transpires? I decided to let it be...because I know that the people on this site are not like the "usual" public forum posters out there; we have class and maturity and can discuss a subject like this without getting ugly with one another. The first person who oversteps their boundaries will be warned, their post possibly deleted, and if they continue with the bad behavior, they will be banned. We've only ever banned two people from this site before: One was a pervert, and the other was sexually harassing one of our female members behind the scenes. I'd hate to do it again, so unlike the "campaign," let's keep it civil, everyone.

Tristan, your vote always counts, so never stop voting. Maybe someday you'll be shocked when a your candidate actually wins. They actually have a good shot the more local they get and once they gain traction locally they have a better shot regionally and then nationally, like Bernie Sanders. That is why the UK has so many parties, each party is very localized, or that is what I understand. Our UK folks can explain their system better than me.

I think we've always supported each other, and when we support each other that intelligence filters into the greater community and the world is a better place. No need for political debate, lots of room for the foot of friendship, the proper barefoot way, like we've always done. This is an amazing community, thanks TJ for bringing us all together :)

All topics are allowed here as long as people treat each other respectfully.

No need to lock or delete this thread. No one has overstepped their boundaries.

It's been brought to my attention that non-running topics are not especially welcomed here. I've asked TJ to lock or delete this thread. Sorry I stepped out of my lane.
I almost voted barefoot, but decided I didn't want any hassles at the polls for this election. I've read elsewhere a lot of people voted at the polls barefoot.

Nothing to be sorry about. It is good you had a place to safely vent a little.
