Do you remember your first outing barefoot?

I grew up going to the beach bf. Only tourists wear shoes to the beach in socal. Around 10 or so i played american football with kids in Mexico. They made fun of me for wearing shoes so took them off. Gravel was huge and painful but i adapted quickly. This kid liked me and was impressed. He wanted to give me his rooster as a gift that i had to refuse.

As an adult I didn't want to run bf. Bought vff and ran for a few months. Bought some xero shoes and got blisters so i walked "ran" home bf about half a mile my first outing. Second outing the trail was muddy. Sandals don't work in mud. I didn't know that then. Was my first official bf run and my best run ever. I did around three miles and was just sprinting the whole way. TMTS. Shin splints for three weeks in the front compartment.

I would give anything to get that feeling back. It was the only or at least the best runners high i ever got. April or May 2010.

I had been using VFF and other minimalist type shoes for running and walking and really liked the feeling of the ground underneath. In August 2015 went camping at Gunstock New Hampshire for SoulFest and decided to walk around one afternoon barefoot. I was a little embarrassed when I bumped into some friends from our church. They inquired where my shoes where and I gave some lame answer. After that I started walking around the block at night, thinking the low light conditions would keep people from noticing I was barefoot.

I had been trying to replace my worn out VFF and other minimalist shoes but our local running store stopped carrying both. Looking online I could only find the VFF and I wanted to move away from them. One unusually warm sunny afternoon in February 2016 I decided to give barefoot running a try. Did a half mile run and then ran and walked another half mile. I love the feeling and decided to stop looking for shoes.

Not only did I start running barefoot I decided to see how much I go without shoes altogether. It has been an interesting journey.

Okay, okay, okay! I couldn't stand it anymore. Sorry Sked. I just had to change the title from Do you remember you're first outing barefoot? to Do you remember your first outing barefoot? I know it was just a typo, but it was driving me crazy every time I saw it! Teasing, of course.

It's why I ended up an illustrator and not a novelist.:wacky:

On another note I keep getting a message in Safari that the certificate for BRS is invalid, not sure if it's from my end though, as i'm really good at screwing up technology and am sure one day I will single handedly crash the interweb by pressing enter.

TJ was aware of this. I emailed her about it. It said the security certificate expired two days ago. The developers are working on it.

I was 4 the first time I went out barefoot.
My dad was a barefooter, but not too avid about it. He was just barefoot 90% of the time and put on shoes when he had to.
Well being a kid I wanted to be like him. I tried leaving the house a few times without shoes, but my mum wouldn't let me leave the yard without shoes on.
One day I snuck into the car when we were going to my grammas, without my shoes.
Our car ended up stalling 2 blocks from her house.
When we got out and my mum saw my feet, she got mad and yelled at me, but there were no shoes in the car to put on so she told me if I got hurt, it was my fault.
We walked the 2 blocks and made it to my grammas.
My grandpa wouldn't let me in the house till i washed my feet on the porch (he was a big stickler about lots of things) and then when my dad showed up to fix the car, he brought shoes that they made me put on.

My kids are always going around barefoot to stores and restaurants. I think I'm setting a good example. ;):barefoot:

What a sad story that I could have been a part of before I came too the realization that going barefoot is not bad or harmful.

My mum still isn't a fan of me being barefoot.
The sad part is that when I was 7 I got ingrown toenails on both my big toes because of shoes crushing my toes together. The doctor told my mum to get me sandals and let me go without shoes as often as I could, but both her and my dad told me to bare (foot, ha) with shoes so I didn't cut my foot somehow. I ended up having to get both my big toenails permanently removed in 2012 because of it, so I hate shoes more than most.

My supervisor said I can't take my shoes off on my breaks or when leaving work because it's "unprofessional" as if what I do on my breaks or after work affect my job skills.
I'm admittedly her best worker too.
Sorry to hear that. It must be one of those places that is so strict about a dress code or something. I just told my employer I was doing it for a cause and they were AOK with it.

I work in housekeeping at an outside mall. Half the people don't even wear uniform. She has a hatred of bare feet cause whenever I mention anything about going somewhere barefoot, she has this disgusted look.
Sometimes I wanna be rude and come in without shoes, just say I forgot them or something. Worst case, she sends me home. Technically with my work, OSHA laws don't apply except for 2 things, so i'd simply be out of uniform.

But I don't wanna be that guy that sets a bad example for all barefooters.
