Hi all,

This looks like a great community, and I'm happy to join.

I've been running my whole life, but started running in VFFs back in 2010. (Yes, immediately after reading Born to Run/ mind-blown). This summer, after a hiatus, I decided to start ditching those.

First go: 1/2 mile on pavement. No issues, felt awesome.
Second go: 2 miles on pavement. Fast, felt awesome, but had a few toe blisters at the end. I think I need to pick up my feet more, and maybe ramp up the miles more slowly.

Otherwise I'm excited to start this new chapter, and hope I can learn from all of you!

BTW on first glance I can't quite tell if there's an active Portland community... Chapter thing is quiet and so is the Facebook page. If there's anything going on in the area, I'd like to know.

Thanks,
Brandon

Brandon,

welcome. the Ptown group is pretty quiet recently. everyone is off doing their own thing now instead of group runs. paraganek still runs a lot and does some smaller races. at 2 miles you won't keep up with him but he will be nice and slow down for you a while.

i can't speak for anyone else as i haven't seen them for a while. me, i still need to strengthen my ankle. as i sit on my ass all day in school i've only gotten weaker. i maybe running in the fall but look up paraganek (Dan).

i also have an, shhhh, unofficial FB page.https://www.facebook.com/groups/pdxbrs/. send a request.

Hi Brandon and welcome here !
It is always nice to see a new member addition here in Portland.
As Mike is saying there are no organized group runs these days but I am always open to run with anyone, especially on Wildwood trail (I do not venture out on pavement much ;-).
I do not have any running schedule but I am on Wildwood two three times a week, usually after work (around 6-7 PM).

Hi Daniel, thanks for letting me know. Trail running has always been my passion, but I've actually struggled with it minimalist. That's actually why I started BFing...

When I switched to VFFs, I was almost always on paved roads, and had no trouble. But I always missed the trails. Then last year, I started running on Wildwood in VFFs, and to my shock, started having ankle pains. I had always assumed that trail running was easier! Now I think it exposed flaws in my technique, because it is so much more technical than pavement. So my plan is to run BF on pavement until my form is better, then get back on the trails. We'll see if it works.

So I think I have along way to go before I could join you on Wildwood, but thanks for giving me a goal!

Mike, thanks for the fb invite, I'll do that now. Thanks to others for the warm welcome.
