Does vaseline/lotion make the skin weaker?

Running during the night time here in California has gradually made my foot a bit dry , beginning to see little lines of my foot turn white. Although i feel no discomfort whatsoever it has me worried.

So does applying Vaseline/lotion make the soles or the skin of my feet softer?
This seems to be the only solution I've come up with to counter dry skin but it feels like the dry skin is actually making my skin more thick and durable than after i use Vaseline or lotion.

I think you should only use Vaseline or lotion when you're actually having a problem. It will definitely soften your skin if you use it a lot, sleep with it, etc. Let nature thicken and condition your soles. :barefoot:

You must take 2 hours vaseline bath with rose flowers every day otherwise your foot will be like this

TJ, where did you read this? I don't think is true though.
I moisturize my feet EVERY SINGLE DAY and that doesn't affect anything, on the contrary, it has been my experience that the drier the skin the more sensitive it is.

I never had a problem, so I didn't use Vaseline.

I think Vaseline is good for healing cracks, so I was saying if you don't have a problem, then you don't need it.

I hope, you understood my reply as joke. If you asking avid barefooters, only problems we can face are with heels, but even more if using sandals or similar, then if barefoot.
So, wearing sandals causes more cracks than going barefoot? (I get cracks when I wear sandals, and I wear them a lot. I used to wear them even in winter in areas where it snowed.)

Me thinks so, I've seen sandal wearing people with badly cracked heels and they are not runners. So keep an eye on it.

That said, do you consume a good amount of water and fatty foods on a regular basis? if not, I would suggest looking into whether this could be related to the problem. Additionally, if you take medication, some medications can have adverse skin effects, so look into the effects of any medications you take if you haven't already.
