Hi everyone!

I'd like to open up a new thread about running logs, training logs, diarys, growth charts, whatever you want to call the things we use to keep track of mileage. Since I'm starting this thread (TJ, if this is the wrong forum, please tell me which forum I should be posting this into,) I'll start by sharing my 'running log' with some examples and screen shots.

I want the goal to be sharing data and information, but also to look for ways to spot gaps in our running/training/racing. Perhaps this will help you prevent or reduce injuries. Maybe not make the mistakes I've made. :) Please be polite and respectful when 'critiquing' and please share your thoughts/comments/suggestions. But most importantly, share what you use to keep track of daily runs and workouts.

I'm sure there are lots of smartphone apps out there that can do this same stuff, lots better too! :) I just enjoy working with spreadsheets, primarily Excel.

Enjoy!

ps; Take some of this with a big grain of salt. Just because I'm doing 'x' doesn'tmean you should be doing it, or maybe 'y' is better for your situation. :)

My running log is a giant, almost unmanageable beast. Too many unused tabs at the bottom.
It could really be pared down to maybe 2 - 4 (large-ish) worksheets.
The first image just shows the tabs (worksheets) across the bottom of the Excel workbook.Clint's Running Log.jpg

The first tab, 'Notes' has some general info about weight, body fat, calories.
The second tab, 'Pictures' is somewhere between reduntant and irrelevant.
The third tab is just a list of crossfit style workouts. Some exercises require weights, most could be probably done in a prison cell. :)
The fourth tab, 'Pains' hasn't been used in several years. Just a list of minor maladies, aches, and pains the spring up, impare gait, or otherwise cause me to take notice.
The fifth tab, 'Weight' is interesting if you like to play with charts and graphs. I get into that sort of stuff.
The sixth tab, 'Daily workouts' is just a printable batch of crossfit workouts.

The pix of the first six tabs are below.
I'll upload more pix of the remaining tabs in the next day or so....
In the mean-time, please share, comment, add, etc... :)

I have a text pad that I keep to track weight daily with some brief comments on exercise/running/diet, etc. It's convenient because I have it as a google doc and can pull it up on my phone. I think the document has 3 or 4 years of entries which is cool. At first I thought it was OCD but now see the value in it. It keeps me on task.

Ok, here's the rest of my Excel workbook...
7a is the biggest sheet, and contains both data, and links back to Data Validation lists. Being a speadsheet, I can perform all sorts of filters, such as all runs over 70 degrees, all runs in the rain, etc...
8 is the same sheet shrunk down to about 15%. Yes, that page is HUGE!!!
9 is just a visual chart to prepare for a race or a specific event. Hardly ever used.

Chris, I'm interested to see your log entries. :)

Hey, Gentile... Thanks for showing me that link. Never even heard of it! Really liked their calculators. :)
