Most excellent 5 mile run yesterday at 5:00am 60 deg. f.
Cloudy and I spotted a few rabbits hopping about.

Rained all day Monday, took the day off. Tuesday was a warm up run, still good effort though but just 6.4 miles. Held just a tad slower than my 1/2 marathon pace for the middle 3 miles. Was planning on a speed workout the next day so this was a warm up run.

Today was Rock 'n Roll! I have done a few speed workout the last month or two but not much faster than my 1/2 marathon pace. Probably fine for the 1/2 coming up but also want to get some training in for the 10k that is two weeks later. I haven't run near my 10k pace since last year I think, so I at least got to experience that once or twice before the big day! So today nature and scenery took the back seat, put headphones in, some metal and rock and roll playing, and actually set a target pace as close to 6:30 min/mile that I could. 8.5 miles total, and after warmup I did 1 mile repeats (x4) with a ~.25mi walk in between. 6:24, 6:12, 6:28, 6:28. Felt great to really engage the strength of the legs for a change, and felt that down deep exhaustion I only feel after a race or really hard effort, and that feeling I must eat all food that I can find in my pantry! So I think that is about my target 10k pace, but I don't know how I am going to put those 4 miles together without the 3 walk breaks in between, and also add 2 more on the end!

Wednesday morning: 7km on the beach. Started out a comfortable pace for the first few kms and then ran into some old blokes I know and slowed down for a chat for a km or two. They are awesome guys, one is well into his 70s, and they just jog along talking crap and making outlandish insulting statements about one another. They usually finish off with a dip in the (now rather chilly, and getting colder) ocean, but I had a few more kms left to get home and I don't have balls of steel like they do.

Work and other things are getting in the way of running at the moment, so I need to pick it up a little. Not tomorrow though, because the surf forecast looks good. Hopefully I can get a long run in on the weekend at some stage, and I'm also hoping to get out for my first paddle in a kayak for a few years if I can - I joined the local canoe club and I'll see if my Kermit the Frog arms still know how to do it.

To make sure I get an entry in this week, here is where my barefoot running miles are as of today - 8.3 miles on Monday, 4.8 on Tuesday, 3.1 on Wednesday, and added another 2.1 for today. As reported elsewhere, I got a lot of barefoot time walking and going from place to place on Monday. The week's not over yet so I hope to get out to run again tomorrow morning.

7.5km today with the local social running group, but in minimal shoes. Too much gravel and stones on the track they like to run on.

The local longboard surfing club had a contest scheduled for today and they arrived to see tiny waves and a freshening onshore breeze turning it all to tiny slop. It was a bit sad to see all the surfers standing around forlornly watching the conditions get worse.

After my wild week last week, I felt like I had done a triathlon or 13.1 miler event. So. I rested for 2 days, then only ran a couple of short runs this week. Tuesday 6.3 miles and Saturday 6.5 miles, all bf. Did also get in a couple swims, a bike ride, and a lot of yard work, but overall, it was still a relatively restful, recuperative week.

The end of last week I ended up hosting family briefly and then heading out of town for the weekend to be in my cousins wedding. First time hosting guests overnight by myself ever (been bachelor a couple years now) plus first time seeing my brother in 10 years so I didn't get much running in, but did jog down the road and back for a couple miles before leaving Friday and getting back Sunday. Had to wear some pretty darn uncomfortable shoes as a part of my tux, raised heel, stiff almost like plastic, and like a good inch (or more) too narrow in the toes! Was like 6 hours in those damned things Saturday. When I tried to run Sunday I actually walked about a mile and a half first to try to stretch the feet out a bit. They had some funny cramps in them. Finished out the week with 20.6 miles barefoot.

Two runs, total of 14,55 km. Increasing slowly just don't have much time lately. Working from 0700 til 2200 this week. I hope to do at least two runs this week. I do notice some improvement though. Maybe next week I will have time to run more
