"Mommy, can I get some shoes and cut the bottom out of them for my fun run at school next week -- because I don't think they'll let me run barefoot." :(

Sadly, I dont think we'll be able to make that work. I told her she'll just have to run in her Feelmax Osmas. So she suggested at least removing the insoles from them -- which we attempted and found that they're glued in, so that's not an option.

I gave her 3 choices:

1) Suck it up and run in the Osmas.

2) Start the run in the Osmas, pull them off after the first lap (1 lap = 1/6 mi) and keep running. The risk is they'll make her stop and put them back on. The likelihood is they'll just her continue. I'm planning to volunteer at the run, so I can try to run interference.

3) We could ask permission ahead of time (including providing resources as to why BFR is not a bad thing), but if they say no there's no choice but to run in shoes.

She picked option 2. The run is next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Peace,

Karen

She always was a smart

She always was a smart girl!

Option three should never be used, never ask permission in advance.

Option one is for the weak.

Option two is the only choice here.

But you can plan your interference in advance!

Have a couple books on you, Jason's, Dr. Howell's.

Keep them distracted and feeling ignorant while DD finishes in style.

I'd recommend slipping out of the Osmas a few seconds BEFORE the start.

In my opinion, it's always

In my opinion, it's always beter to be prepared to apologise than to ever ask permission. Betting on bureaucratic inertia is usually a winner.

So speaks a typical youngest child.

I have a 10 yr old daughter.

I have a 10 yr old daughter. Stories like this pull at my heart stings. Hope everything works out. Here is my prediction, she will have a blast.

When I started barefooting my kids easily out distanced me on the tread mill. They are amazing runners

Awesome. My seven year old

Awesome. My seven year old took off her shoes in the middle of a 5k, saying "I'm gonna bust out of these shoes!". Kids are so great.

That's awesome! I wish my kids would take to BFR but for now I'll just settle with them being interested in running at all. :) The funny thing is they are BF most of the time, they just don't think to run that way. I'm working on them though!

#2!  And if they stop her to

#2! And if they stop her to ask, she can just say the shoes are "bothering" her feet, which is not a lie.

 That's a good plan.  I am

That's a good plan. I am wondering about my daughter's cross country club, which is just starting (she's in 2nd grade)....she usually runs barefoot or in converse, which is fine with me. I would like to buy her some good minimal shoes but whew the $$ for growing feet! :)

Kids are so much smarter than adults!

At my last 5K I was finishing barefoot and a little girl looked at me, then looked at her mum, and said, "I wish I had run the race barefoot..." :)
