"High spot" on bottom of right foot

I've been running barefoot for about 7 months and have gone thru all the typical calf troubles and TOFP but the one thing that persists is a spot the size of a marble ( in width, not depth) in the middle of the ball of my foot. It's not painful but is uncomfortable and feels like I'm stepping on something with every step. The skin directly under the spot feels callused, not like the soft leather feel of the rest of the sole . Any ideas what it is or if it's fixable?

Dun dun dun. Under which

Dun dun dun. Under which metty is this suspicious patch forming? Is your 2nd toe longer than your big toe? ( I think in medical terminology they call that toe Piggyus Marketus)

Then you may have lucked out.

Then you may have lucked out. Just to be sure check the 'knuckles' of the 1st and 2nd toes. which one is furthest forward?

Sherry,I'm having the same

Sherry,

I'm having the same problem (different place though). My guess based on my own foot is that it's a friction spot but I have yet to figure out how to stop it. Mine is between my big toe and my second toe (which is not longer than my big toe either).

From what I've learned, any callous means friction of some sort, but I have yet to figure out how to stop my own so I don't have any advice on that :~

And I've only been BF about the same amount of time as you so I'm far from an expert...

I think I have the answer,

I think I have the answer, but I have to go to Oslo right now. Be back later.

Don't forget, just because a

Don't forget, just because a second toes does not appear to be longer than the first toe, doesn't mean that the 2nd metatarsal bone isn't longer than the first, something to check, as Nyal stated.

And what does, Dun dun dun mean exactly, Mr. Nyal?

My guess would be that hes referring to another MT victim. As in OMG! Another MT victim. My problems are exactly the same as thee's, so I would say if it's just friction, they both will be very lucky indeed. I wish mine had just been friction.

Yes, another possible victim

Yes, another possible victim indeed. And if it turns out to be so, please join us in the MT Club, Sherry.

MT is Morton's Toe which

MT is Morton's Toe which means that the second metatarsal (knuckle) is longer than the first. TJ likes her acronyms as you'll see if you stick around.

Sorry, it's the old tech in

Sorry, it's the old tech in me coming out.

Wait, if your second toe

Wait, if your second toe knuckle is further out than your big toe knuckle then you have MT? I thought everyones foot was like that! Aren't your knuckles supposed to be in a curve? My second knuckle is like half a centimeter farther out than my big toe. Is there some secret part of the genetic code for MT that makes you more likely to become a barefoot runner? Its seems like an awful lot of people on here have it.

So if it is MT what do I do

So if it is MT what do I do about it? Do I have to get one of Nyal's toe pads? Do you have to wear one for the rest of your life?

I t only bothers me on hard surfaces. So I can run on grass or walk on carpets with no problem. But I like running on the street . If I decide to put up with the discomfort will it get worse? So many questions.... BFR is not for the faint of heart.

No worries, Sherry, there is

No worries, Sherry, there is nothing wrong with having MT. Ten percent of the population has a shortened 1st metatarsal. I invite you to read up at our Fellowship of the Morton's Toe thread, if you do have it. However, if your metty is normal you may have another form of MT. Yes, they come in different forms.

There is a condition wherein your 2nd metty is actually dropped in relation to the rest of your foot. This causes all the same issues as regular MT.

Dun dun dun.
