How does one go about earning a doctor of Oriental Medicine degree & license in the state of Florida?

How many states

How many states license DOM's? Is it like ND, just a few, or most?

Sorry, after I posted the question I checked your profile and saw the answers, so I edited my post. You beat me to the response though!

Just checked it out, is it

Just checked it out, is it really just California and Florida in the U.S?

each state licenses

each state licenses acupuncturists differently based on education, national board exams, and state criteria etc.. some use DOM-Doctor of Oriental Medicine (AR, FL, NM, NV), some use DOA-Doc of Acupuncture(RI), some use registered or licensed acupuncturist, some have no practice plan -- Some have primary care status (Florida being one of them)

A friend of mine earned a N.D. at Portland. He later earned a D.C. as well and then relocated to the east coast, where he practiced a few days a week as an N.D. and a few days a week across the state line as a D.C.

He had to remember what he was allowed to do in each state regardless of patient needs.

It's pretty confusing!

Our youngest son is studying pre-professional health science at university. I want to make sure he is aware of all of the alternatives to M.D., D.C., N.D., D.P.M. ,O.D. and D.O. school before he makes his decision on a post graduate program.

yeah it can get very confusing... and a lot of it is politics! For example in Florida we have to complete our masters degree (2700 hours - which is comprised of both biomedicine and oriental medicine) to practice where as a MD can practice acupuncture with no training and a DC can practice with 100 hours.

So an M.D. can complete a

So an M.D. can complete a first year of a residency in anything to gain a license, and without any training in acupuncture hang out a shingle " Dr. Joe Pretend, M.D., Acupuncture Clinic" ???

Neither the state medical licensing board nor state medical association would care?

I added a really great

I added a really great Chiropractor to the map. He takes great care of his patients, is quite funny, and very good looking. He also brews beer at home, but does not dispense it for treatment purposes.

Dr. Klein is a Chiropractor and has a post-doctorate degree in Neurology. He holds Diplomate status with the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. He is also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner. He started barefoot running in April of 2011.
Since dry humor is not translated well through text, I should add the disclaimer that Dr. Klein is me. Have a great day!

I added Dr. Tom Hecker who is in Ft. Collins, CO. He has a great manner and offers extremely practical, low-cost advice and alternatives. (I mean low-cost from the standpoint of doing simple things temporarily to get through issues.) He is anti-orthotic (From the perspective of not recommending orthotics as a long-term solution. He does believe - sometimes - in using home-made little pads and such temporarily) and believes strongly that the foot was meant to move. I've been to him with basically issue after issue after issue, he understands what I'm trying to do, and he has never said anything to discourage me from doing that.

What an awesome resource! The map is really filling up. Thanks to all who have added those barefoot-friendly docs and specialists they know of to the map. You're helping others!

I saw Dr. McWillliamson a few weeks ago for a non running related knee injury and he was supportive of barefoot and minimalist running.

He is located in Montgomery, Tx.

I have included a link to his website.
