Mileage, What have your feet been up to week ending Oct 10?

BB just said naked did my

BB just said naked :p

did my run, burrr! My feet did NOT like the cold. Took them a good 2mi to warm up in this morning's 40 some degree weather. After that it was fine, though those first two miles made for an interesting, cold feet feeling every bit of that chipseal path, sort of run.

Sunday: 1hr zumba, 1hr belly dance, .5h core work

Monday: 5.15mi barefoot with jogger

Tuesday: 2hrs zumba

Wednesday...nada

Thursday: 6mi total plus 15min core work

Friday: 1hr zumba

Saturday: 8.5mi planned (meetup with Qadupae planned:))

Barefoot with jogger, Zum! I

Barefoot with jogger, Zum! I always imagine getting toes run over.

So far:

Monday: 3.2 Bikilas easy

Tuesday: 6.5 Bikilas 4.5 @tempo

Thursday: 4.0 supposed to be in Zems but my calf acted up, so barefoot

I can't tell if my calf acted up because I was back to wearing Zems, or if it was because I was not wearing my Zensah sleeves.

No running likely until the race Sunday.

The only problem with

The only problem with barefoot and a jogger is not seeing what you're about to step on. I usually do my mid-week runs with my 1 year old in tow...

BB, after my experience with

BB, after my experience with the sandbag run I started wondering if adding extra weight did something to condition the feet. It's just an idle idea, I haven't had time to test it again. But now that you have mentioned your weighted run I am thinking I might try it again. Hmm maybe I could carry my dog, that way the "sandbag" could walk itself if I got worn out...

btw:Tuesday, 5 miles

btw:

Tuesday, 5 miles barefoot on mostly pavement, some gravel road. plus 1 hr kettle bells and submission wrestling.

Thursday, 1.5 hrs submission wrestling. As usual I struggled to defend against the triangle. [Tips, NsNate?]

Friday, 6.5 miles on pavement. Definitely a bit more jarring and repetitive than trails and I am working to adjust.

The added weight does

The added weight does something at least. My knees weren't very happy the day after. I gotta say that run got me to really decide to lose the extra 30 pounds I lug around though. I knew weight made a difference but I didn't think it was that bad.

Another thing about strollers: Don't step on a spinning wheel, I know this from experience. On one of my first attempt to run with mine I tried to run out to the side of it and didn't go quite wide enough so I caught my toes on the rear wheel and since it was spinning my toes followed it upwards while the rest of my foot continued toward the ground. My three middle toes haven't really been the same since, nothing broken but the tendons have been bothering me quite a bit.

"No running likely until the

"No running likely until the race Sunday."

Famous last words. I think the sandbag talking got under my skin. I needed to run an errand for work today - take postcard fliers and pamphlets down to another building a mile away where we have an exhibit on display.

I ran there with the bag which was heavy and back. Totally killed me.

So far:

Monday: 3.2 Bikilas easy

Tuesday: 6.5 Bikilas 4.5 @tempo

Thursday: 4.0 supposed to be in Zems but my calf acted up, so barefoot

Friday: 2.1

Sunday: Warrior Dash 3.1 (with obstacles)

18.9 total - no long run but I think in the heat the mud run will be tough enough.

guys and gals, This is just

guys and gals,

This is just my not so humble opinion, but running with additional weight as a beginner barefooter is probably NOT a great idea. The last thing a beginner needs is more weight causing more stress on connective tissue and joints with MOST LIKELY less than perfect form.

I'm pretty sure none of the

I'm pretty sure none of the people on here right now are begginners. Well okay, I am pretty much, but I don't have anything heavy to run around with besides my back pack, and I'd rather not go there. Good to clarify for any beginners reading this though. I actually have a lot of trouble moving gently with a backpack on, it just kinda kills my form. (I just checked and my backpack weighs 35 pounds, no wonder my shoulders are sore from lugging it around.)

And Zum, don't worry, I'm watching out for TMTS, but I'm really doing a lot less running than I could/should be right now because I've been so busy, so I don't think I'll run into any trouble. I've only had time for like 2 half hour runs a week recently, and of course the 10 mile covers the whole week for me this time. I'm happy to report that my feet have completely recovered from the 10, and so have my muscles.

I don't think running with

I don't think running with weights makes sense for anyone who is interested in running better. I read about one pro runner one time who ran with a weight vest and it was just a 5 pound weight vest.

haha, I've never gotten into

haha, I've never gotten into any trouble with running my own toes over whilst pushing a jogger. Now when the kids get a hold of it and push it around, that's a different story.

good luck Warrior Schwab! Enjoy your race tomorrow!

Danjo, good to hear those feet are feeling good.

Oso, sometimes a run warrants some extra baggage. I occasionally run as a means to commute and have been known to run with a very light load of groceries, or clothing etc. Not as a regular part of a run though.

Yes, I don't do it as part of my training, but I am always loaded down with something. I actually do this alot, sometimes heavy things, but not usually as heavy as today.

Danjo, IMO If a person has

Danjo, IMO If a person has been running barefoot for a year...your a beginner...I consider myself a beginner.

it's all good though kiddies...just dot want anybody to get hurt.

don't get caught it one!!!! :-D....otherwise, in a guard, always remember.....both arms in, or both arms out....one arm in is always an arm bar set up or a triangle set up :) One folds into the other, get that other arm in and break the guard apart!...or depart from "sport rules", and take that free hand and grab his junk and rip away!!!

the following comment may not be understandable to anyone not experienced with martial arts ...

It was a chick! With a chip on her shoulder (about something or other, not me) and a strong guard and a wicked triangle. And thereby no junk to harass. Actually I did get out of it once with some strategic knee pressure on the area in question. About which she complained. It was one of those weird dojo situations where your partner is going very hard on you, switching from sport to street style, and then expecting you to take it easy on them. It happens a lot with beginners or people who are there for "self defense" rather than some other reason. Not so often with intermediates like this girl.

I guess I should look at this philosophically. If they are acting like that, that means they are emotional and afraid. Being in the dojo scenario triggers that for them. That might mean I need to lower the intensity level with my demeanor. Communicate with my attitude that "whatever happens here I am not going to really hurt you." Whisper with my body instead of shout. All that t'ai chi crap. :)

I can apply all those principles with beginners. But here the skill level was more well matched and I felt like I needed to match the intensity as well. Perhaps that's an emotional reaction on my part.

But also, I think I will try the two arms out method. I could have gone for the double under and didn't really think of it.

I been doing 3 and 4 milers

I been doing 3 and 4 milers on trails and gravel, every other day, and tread mill. All barefoot. Some days I go alot farther if I am feeling really good. But, with my workload I cant get into a whole lot more than that til winter. I am just too busy, not enough hours in the day lol!

Only got the chance to run

Only got the chance to run three times this week, 3mi on Monday, 1.5mi on Tuesday and a little more than 3mi this morning. This newbie runner is happy though... that was more than last week and my first 5K distance this morning. All barefoot.

About the weights and stuff,

About the weights and stuff, my reason for doing it was that I needed to run and going into town and back was about the distance I was shooting for and if I would've gone by bus instead it would've taken longer and I still would have needed that run. Two birds, one stone. I don't plan on ading weighs to my runs anytime soon, like I said earlier, it made me motivated to lose the extra pounds I'm carrying. That being said, I've eaten nothing but junk and haven't run at all since then. I've had a busy week but hopefully I'll do something about that tomorrow.

I gotchya BB, I'm all about

I gotchya BB, I'm all about killing two birds with one stone...well, not killing them because that goes against my morals :p

And submission wrestling? Where does one do this? I always considered wrastling around with dh to be sort of a submission type of wrestling:p I can hold my own against him though once he body slammed me into our sectional couch and I landed at the uncushioned corner and separated my shouder and split a gap into the skin. THAT was fun explaining to our family doctor:D
