Just wanted to share this - today was my 3rd outdoor barefoot run and 1st running in the rain. It was raining this morning and there were plenty of puddles along the walking/running path around my office. I debated on avoiding them, but figured "what the heck" and decided to just splash on through them.

Man - I'd forgotten how much fun puddles are barefoot

Cheering you on! So sensual, tactile -- A L I V E ! ! (Being with Mother Earth)

Water, water, water everywhere in Oakland today. Walked through plenty of puddles and flooded side walks. Without having to worry about wet shoes or socks I could just enjoy the rain. Went back out for a baguette for lunch and just splashed through every puddle and stream of urban runoff. Plenty of people looked at me like I was nuts in shorts, barefoot, a baseball cap, and yellow rain slicker. One lady smiled though. Maybe she was envious of the over-grown kid she saw.

Looks like fun!

After the water drains, go find some mud puddles.
(Water) puddles are fun, but mud puddles are way better!

After a while, one becomes a sort of mud connoisseur.
You seek mud that is just the right consistency and depth to go barefoot through.
Pretty rare in SoCal as we don't get much rain and much of the soil is sandy/gritty, which does not make good mud.

Edit:
We got some decent rain today, so stopped by a local trail on the way home from work.
Not the greatest mud (you can see how gritty it is) but fun anyway.

You bring back a early early memory of my youth living on the Lower Eastside of New York in a five story walk-up. The building had a small back yard at the ground level. One day, after a summer(?) rain, I went to the yard and took my shoes off and discovered the feeling of mud between my toes. I really liked it a lot.

Just last week, I walked/ran through some slightly muddy patches in the Lake Merritt Park. A great way to get exercise and connect to the earth. I had hoped to go again this morning after the rains but an overnighter for work has pretty much taken that run off today's schedule. Oh well. I am hoping for more rain!
