Watcha listenin' to?

Ya, they are playing here this weekend but unfortunately it's on a Sunday so I will not be going as my wife has to work the next morning and has to get up at 4:45am. Wouldn't be good, me coming home after midnight probably. Pretty bummed that I won't get to go see them.

That stinks. Where are you from originally? We live now on 21 acres that is mostly woods but that is not the way I grew up. Hubby grew up in Northern Wisconsin and this stuff rings true to him too.

Our goal is to raise our boys with a simple country life but also appreciate nice things too, if that makes sense.

Originally from a small town in NW Montana about 50-55 miles from Canada. It was a very country upbringing so I really don't fit in with a lot of the city folk here in Oregon, people here are too weird. My wife was raised on a farm too and she had horses all her life while I was around cattle. She and I are hoping to be able to rent out our condo in the 'burbs this next year and to be able to buy a house farther out of the city and more in the country. We want our children to have that country upbringing that we did but also have nice things too. My wife does have a lot more city in her though than I do as she was raised only a half hour from Portland while I on the other hand had to travel 120 miles to get to a city, which at the time was maybe 40-50,000 people. Things have changed a lot there though and now the town I was from is close to that population.

Lately I've been listening to this. I call it redneck rap. ;) Reminds me of home which at this time of year I'm always missing terribly.

Interesting stuff Nick, I don't usually do the rap-ish kind of stuff but I dig it none the less. To show part of my redneck side though, I have the same Bronco thats at 33 seconds... mine has super swamper on it but I much milder 33" ones and only like 2" of extra lift lol.

21 wooded acres sounds perfect! I am wanting to move again eventually, my ideal place I had decided would be at least 20 acres mostly wooded, big enough to be self supportive for firewood for heating, and some lumber for various projects (I have a mini chainsaw mill though I havent used it much yet) and woods for deer hunting for food. I currently do all that on the families farm, but a 2 hr drive each way cuts into the 'value' saved by spending so much in gas and time. We do have a pretty decent garden here, about 25'x70' and two more smaller ones I'm putting in for next year. I freeze and can a lot from the garden. I did grow up this way, and then after college stayed in the city for about 10 years and finally had enough and about 3 years ago moved to where we are now. Unfortunately to find a nice inexpensive rural setting I now have a 40 mile drive to work. I have a bit of ying and yang or whatever in my personality people say, as most know me as the geeky engineer scifi guy, and the other side of me would rather be a hobbit out in the mountains.

The older I get, the more I appreciate country living. It's a good 20-25 minutes to the nearest grocery store from us. Hubby's family had chickens growing up and he worked on both dairy and veal farms in his teens. We are looking into buying chickens with a neighbor and I would plant a garden but I have a knack for killing plants...
