I have started doing finger tip pushups again. What a difference, I remember my basketball coach way back in the day lived by these, also Bruce Lee did as well. For some reason they are more productive than standard palm pushups, I guess they work the core better.

Anyways I came up with this exercise yesterday.

I am sure you have heard of plank holds, it's a common exercise for runners. The plank holds Im talking about is this: http://www.ab-core-and-stomach-exercises.com/images/side-plank-2.jpg

You begin in the standard pushup position, in the up position on your finger tips. Do two fingertip pushups, then right to a plank hold (hold this for about 5 or 10 seconds), then back to two more fingertip pushups, and repeat the plank hold with the other hand (hold for 5 or 10 seconds). Do a set of 10, which gives you a total of 20 fingertips push ups, and 20 plank holds.

Great upper body and core exercise.

I love the planks, all of

I love the planks, all of them. For whatever reason, they are easy for me. Now the fingertip pushup, I will have to see. Got a video of you doing them to share?

now, do the same...but go as

now, do the same...but go as slow as you can down, hold for a ten count 1 inch off the ground, and then as slow as you can back up :)

And on the side plank...get that top leg up off the floor and lift it as high as you can too :-D

I stopped doing pushups when

I stopped doing pushups when I started to run in May because I wanted to reduce my proportion of upper body muscle. Lately I've felt the urge again, but I don't know if my fingertips are ready. I've lost 15 pounds or so, but I am not quite light enough. The plank looks like a very cool stretch.

 planks aren't

planks aren't stretches...they're core work....

Another technique I torture both my yoga students and kung fu students is just like what you are doing, live by faith, but with another step....plank (with pushups)...to right side plank and hold, to reverse plank (body facing up) with dips, to left side plank and hold, back to plank (pushups)...the reverse the process, going to the left first....rinse and repeat as desired....

Also, "low planks" and holding can be more difficult and work the core more, due to the angle of the body...these are simply done on the elbow instead of the palm....remember, keep the body straight (no hills or valleys) with all plank variations :)

I have TONS of ways to torture myself and my students....I love this stuff :-D.

And, curious, point of clarification...do you really mean finger TIP pushups or finger PRINT?....finger print pushups are fun and challenging(less fingers, more fun :).....finger tip, however, are brutal (especially if you are a purist with them, and refrain from using the thumb "print" using the thumb point too.)

We also use push-ups with all sorts of variations of hand/finger/punch/technique positions, to help condition the fingers and hands and knuckles for striking purposes.

The stronger your core, the better your posture, the better your posture the more efficient your breath becomes...and it all adds up to being quicker, lighter, and more versitile on your feet :)....AND the stronger your core is, the more you can relax!!

Exactly!

I am assuming i am doing finger print pushups. My finger prints are touching. I didn't even know you can do finger TIP pushups, that is hardcore.

 they are brutal ...try them

they are brutal :)...try them out :-D....if you can't quite do it, use the thumb-print version first...of course, you can't do them if you have fingernails longer than your finger ;-D

This is all too painful to

This is all too painful to even read about.
