I'd rather gnaw my arm off than go clothes shopping

I have four sweatshirts and four pairs of trousers and a few odds and ends and been
happily living in them for the past ten years or so.
I thought it was time for a change so I did the charity shops first, no luck. Went to the budget stores, worse than the charity shops. Went to the posh stores, worse than the charity shops and the budget stores.
All I want is four new sweatshirts and four new pairs of trousers to last me the next ten years, could I find what i wanted, no chance.
I think i've got a good two more years left with what i've got and then i'm going native.

You sound like my hubby...before we got married.

Is their a Kohl's where you live? Or Old Navy?

Not where i live TJ but thanks for the suggestions.
I just wanted something with a bit of color, but all the men's stuff was brown, grey, navy and black, none of the sizes matched the labels and the cut of a lot of the trousers felt like the were designed to deliver the perfect 'wedgie'

I think aliens abducted the shopping gene from us men.

The ideal garment for you would undoubtedly be a kilt! :D
Or is this what you meant by "going native"?

Lol, going native means trapping and pelting a badger and making a loin cloth out of it.

Kilts are for Celts, i don't belong to that tribe so i'd feel like an imposter.
Totally down with the idea though, I am half Irish so a bit of a mongrel, not sure if that gives me permission to bare my legs and let my bits dangle freely over the heather.

I personally really have a hard time shopping for clothes too. I also hate the way jeans and pants in general have changed. They have gotten much tighter and skinnier which I hate. And being a short chubby dude it's already hard to find pants that fit, then trying to find pants that aren't skinny and tight makes it near impossible. I'm not as bad with shirts though as I am happy with a bazinga shirt (reference to the tv show The Big Bang Theory) or a beer shirt. I don't mind being a walking billboard as long as the beer is halfway decent.

Yup, today's pants don't accommodate for runners legs and bigger calf and thigh muscles.
Got the top half sorted today, but i think the bottom half is going to involve axle grease and tire wrench!
Why is it that over the women's side of the shop there are rainbows and unicorns and frolicking and excitement, pan around to the side of the men and it's like a scene from a zombie movie where lost souls shuffle about with stooped heads, making strange grunting noises and wishing they were in the pub.

Usually not discounted, but learned about polartec from Lands' End in the 90s. Those items from them I've lived in for over 20 years. A few from REI over a decade. Pay a little more but save so much over time. (Woolrich, LL Bean, etc. also have clearances. Even at retail, a bargain for quality and comfort.) Just $0.02. Cheers

LOL I thought it was the opposite, seems like things had got baggy lately it's been hard for me to find good fitting pants that werent baggy!

Maybe I'm not typical of 'todays runners' but my legs are pretty thin. With the increase in running these last several years I get rock hard quads and calves but they never really have increased in size at all.

Shirts are easy for me, I have a whole drawer full of race shirts and thats what I wear a lot of the time, like right now at work. But I have t shirts all the way back from high school I still wear.

I don't want baggy per say, I just don't care to have skin tight pants as is the fad right now with the skinny jeans. Kinda hurts the giblets a bit when the jeans get that tight.

I've always hated clothes shopping, and nothing ever fit.
My inseam is like 27 1/2 ", so nothing was short enough.
Yeah my waist is sub-32", but my butt requires "extra large" (no fat, just glutes)
By the time I hem any taper is gone, so I'm baggier than baggie.
Back when bells were in (high school in my case) the bell was gone by the time I shortened 'em to wearable length.
Then last year I discovered www.makeyourownjeans.com
You give them 8 different measurements, and choose from hundreds of different jean fabrics.
Pricier than Costco, but for the right fit and no aftermarket mods needed, they sure sold me!
Custom label available as well.

haha! ya'll are losers! i'm just more of a rounded out man, in many ways. i like shopping for clothes and am good at it. i haven't had the money the last few years to get what i want, nor anything new, sadly.

i took one of the little girls clothes shopping for her bday. i kept handing her stuff to try on. the older one looked at me and said "you have nice tastes in clothes for a boy." i laughed. they must've been 9 and 11 or so.

Don't worry Mike i think you've just been caught in the over spill of pixie dust and glitter from the women's side, a few pints and some manly banter will sort you out ;) .

I too have been a victim of this from time to time, i keep seeing blue hair dye and looking at my long grey beard and thinking i wonder if............

It's pricey, and my wife says they make me look like a Russian Mafioso, but I live in my Icebreaker Merino wool gear now. The tracer pants in particular are pajama-like in comfort, although, as my wife points out, it's pretty easy to see the contours of one's reproductive organs if you're wearing boxer briefs underneath. Squats have made my Levi's jeans real tight in the thighs, so I may have to get the looser fit next time.

Thanks for the heads up WildPlace, I just don't think I'm a skirt kind of guy, have no issues with the idea though.
I believe men should be able to wear what they want, we've been repressed and made to conform as a species for far too long.
I managed to get some very colorful golfing trousers on the cheap which fit a treat and suitably give the finger to grey and brown and bland.

I'm with you! I'd rather French kiss a Ebola infected chimp than shop for clothes! Lost 45 lbs about 3 years ago, so I swim in most everything I own. My wife hates it, but until it wears out...
