In the past couple of weeks, I have had to pass a few people (mostly women) on a 3-4 foot path who barely had their dogs under control even though they were on a leash. I'm talking about them holding the dogs with both hands on the collar and straining while the dog(s) pull mightily. I usually stop to assess, then pass a bit slowly so that I can keep an eye on their dog and not end up tripping on leashes. These people have had the nerve to be impatient with my caution! They say snippy things like, "He would have done much better if you would just go by quickly." I have tried to nicely say something like, "I'm doing what feels safe for me." all the while thinking, stop complaining, I'm the one with the dog obeying me nicely while your dogs threaten us!
