How much duct tape is still barefoot?

I know it sounds nit picky, but I'm curious about people's thoughts on this. And does it matter what part of the foot has duct tape? I still have this trouble spot on the ball of my left foot and am thinking it was damaged further down than I originally thought. It will heal over, but when I hit something hard there, the tisuue seems ready to crack much more easily than ever in my history of running barefoot. It has happened 3 times now, and the cracks, or tears, always look the same and in the same place, so that doesn't seem like new cuts every time. I'm thinking duct tape tomorrow, but had trouble getting it to stay on the ball of my foot last time, so was going to wrap it up around my ankle, without getting it tight enough to affect my range of motion. And I was hoping to run this half marathon barefoot in a month...

Best leave the Duct tape for bank robbers me thinks.
Are min shoes out of the question while the offending area heals?
Duct tape is also made from lots of nasty chemicals, and aluminum which i would think twice about exposing to a wound.

Min shoes are pretty much out of the question right now, for most running situations. They significantly decrease my enjoyment of running unless they are really necessary. I usually have a bandaid directly over the ouie. I'll have to see about 'reading the ingredients' label on the duct tape. ;)

How about a thin sock on you foot thats effected ? not quite "barefoot" but need must to get you by until its healed.

Not a bad idea. Unfortunately, I think the terrain around here would put holes in socks before I made it 2 miles!

I'm going to watch this thread, as I have allergic skin reactions against the gluey parts of bandaids (even the so called hypo allergic ones) and of course any kind of tape. Cracks or wounds of any kind on the feet mean usually "no run" for me but I'm happy to read of any solutions you might have!! :)
I read about superglue as the solution for cracks and tears but, well, I'm not sure I would like o try it out myself. (Besides considering that a tube of superglue is not cheap and you can use it only once, afterwards apparently it dries and obstructs the opening of the tube)

They sell super glue in the US at the dollar store for a dollar. I've been using the same tube for over a year, by recapping and storing in a Ziploc bag in a drawer. Maybe not all superglue is the same?

A few weeks ago I ran a mountain trail, because Im not ready for longer or dificults tracks (above 15 km or more) I used a Puma Fass foam 200, obviously they gave me huge blisters on the ball of the foot, I pop them and when the older skin fell off and the new skin arise (very sensitive skin) I used the Kinotherapy tape (kinesio therapy), is flexible, breathable, the adhesive works great on the skin and is more resistant than a pair of thin socks, may be can work for you, you can get a roll of 5 cm x 5m and you can cut it in small pieces, you can even get it wet and most of the time wont fall off.

Sorry for the bad english...

I am on the same boat in regards of using the min shoes (rather not running at all than running in those).
For cracks I always use a superglue.
For wounds I also put a bandaid directly over them and wrap a ductape around to keep the bandaid in place. This gets me anywhere in a 6 mile range, then the ductape starts wearing down.
Good luck with your HM barefoot ! (Probably take a small roll of ductape with you just in case :).

Try superglue on those things the frst application is painful but keep reapplying every other day or so.
That's what I was going to suggest. I understand it's the same thing as medical liquid bandage. If I am wrong about that, someone please let me know.

Will that kinesio tape roll at the edges with wear? I know duct tape and medical tape will roll at the edges making it feel like you are running on some weird debris.

Your English is just fine. :)

Oh, and to answer your question in the title of this thread, you are barefoot all over your feet except for those places that have something attached to them. Hee.

That sounds very interesting! Thank you!

Are those your feet from an incident? It's really nice to hear how everyone deals with this sort of thing and be told again that I'm not the only one.

The tape will roll with use, but only on the final edge, you have to find a place in your foot that doesn't "move" too much to begin and to end the tape. Putting just a small piece of tape on the sole wont work, eventually will fall.

Well, in France it's a bit more expensive :( And they have different sorts for different uses (but unfortunately none specifically to glue foot cracks) so which one should I use? Thanks for the "how to store it best", that information will please my hubby! :)

But if superglue turns out to be the same stuff as medical liquid bandage, as TJ suggests, why not just use the medical liquid bandage which comes in a spray, if I remember correctly? Would be easier to use, easier to store and easier to take on a run if necessary.
