Hello my name is Rubén 27 and I´m from Yucatán in Mexico, I´m currently living in México City, and until today I thought I was the only BFR, I´ve seen people running in Vibram and on sandals, but nobody totally barefoot and I still have mi doubts there is someone else in the city that runs totally barefoot.

Anyway I´m happy there are more people who go completely barefoot around the world and just want to introduce myself.

From the posts I´ve been reading I notice there are a couple of BFR from México, but may be they are not active anymore.

Just a little history about myself, since I was a little boy I´ve been enjoying going barefoot around the house and on the backyard, even on the streets but I never thougt you could run that way until half a year ago. I've been gradually running from 0 to 10 km now in the streets, concrete, gravel and medium harsh terrains without blisters or chaffing, just one day I ran too much and too fast and I got some irritated soles, but nothing more. I´m planning to continue increasing the Km week by week, always listening to my soles and body until I be able to run a complete marathon and from there, the sky is the limit.

Just wanna say HI BFR´s!!

Hey Rubén, how are you ! (although it seems that here you officially adopted already the name Yuca)

I am glad to see another Mexican around here. As you mentioned, very few of us are registered, and the vast majority stopped coming after a while. I think it does not help that we are so scattered, it is not easy to meet or see each other in person. Out of the ones I've seen on the site recently, one is from Monterrey, another from Mexico City and the last one from Guadalajara, but apparently they no longer log in.

As you can see from my profile, I'm from Hermosillo, my name is José Luis and I'm 39 years old. I have approximately 3 years running barefoot , but lately I've been alternating barefooting with huaraches. My last (and only) half and full marathons I ran lst year were wearing huaraches. I made them myself with nylon cords and the soles of some Nike beach sandals I found in a sports store. In the marathon I ran last December, at Mazatlan, I got to see another runner and he himself was walking completely barefoot, he really made me envious, we talked a little the two of us but then I went ahead and I did not see him again, so I didn't know if he managed to finish and in what condition, hehe. It gave me a good laugh in a stretch when we were talking, that someone from the crowd shouted at us " Come on, you can do it! Go ahead with your vow!" Assuming we were running like that as a sacrifice, haha. (this does not translate very well, a "Manda" is some sort of painful physical sacrifice someone promises God in case he grants a request)

By the way, I see you're not in the Mexico chapter yet, go ahead so at least there can be more of us, hehe. On one occasion I suggested TJ, the big boss around here :) , if she'd name me president of the chapter, as others seemed to remain inactive, but then gave up because I really think my location would not have much drawing power. Also at around that time Raramuri, who lives in Mexico City too, just had registered and I thought he could have more coverage, but ultimately nothing happened. If you are interested and think you can get noticed, consider the presidency, hehe, there's no bigger audience than Mexico City.

Greetings Rubén, I hope to see each other around here, if you have any comments or questions don't hesitate, we're here. Take care and keep at the miles!

Saludos...

Welcome Rubén!

Sounds like you're well on the way to the marathon - do you have a date in mind or are you just going to build things up until you feel like you're ready?

Hello Larry, the Half marathon is on April the 27th, the marathon is on august, I honestly dont think I could run either of this races completely barefoot.
This is how I feel today, but I still have 4 more months to get ready, it doesnt worry me, I'm planning to run the firts 10 km BF and the last 11km in VFF but my goal is to completly forget about shoes, may be next year I could run a BF marathon, there's no rush.

My biggest problem now is the left side of my body and my soles telling me that 8km is enough, by that point I dont feel pain in the soles, I feel the sensitivity like the very first day I ran on the streets. I must admit that I try to run on a very pointy-sharp surface to achieve the proper running form.

Regards...

Did I drop the ball on that, José?

Well, I guess we all thought Raramuri was going to step in, but he eventually didn't.

I still think that living in a medium-size remote city doesn't help, besides, I'm not much of a social person (I usually don't post anything on my FB, for example) so I guess that would also play against having a broader audience or increasing it. That's why I've always considered yielding to people that live in big cities like Mexico City or Monterrey.

On the other hand, having any president is better than no president, so if no one else steps in I'd be more than happy to function as president (temporarily or permanently, as required).

Let me know your thoughts on this, TJ.

I would love to have you take on this role, and yes, it is better to have someone who can act as a mentor, even if it just to occasionally answer questions, than to have the seat vacant making the chapter appear dead. It may take time, but as long as we don't give up on each other, we will always be here. I will email you soon. Thanks for stepping up.

Great, then bring on the presidency!
