Mileage Reporting 4th Week 2014

1 km in snow, and with more snow coming from above, one toe turned white, I played it safe. Will try again tomorrow.

I'm so ready for spring. Just 53 days to go or so. After last Monday's 8.2 miles, I didn't get to do anything til I went out on the x-country skis on Saturday and then yesterday I did one of those really awful feeling runs. I ran in big old cumbersome and cushioned running shoes. The whole time I was out there I told myself to take what I could run with and remember that it was good to do this at least so I'm not losing cardio conditioning. But I was not happy doing so. I didn't feel the joy of running like I do when barefoot or in Xeros. It's scary somehow to run so disconnected from the ground and earth. Every step, I would try to feel the ground but all I felt was my foot squirming around in the dark squishy things.

And I'm going to have to do it again this evening. Grumble grumble grumble.

Wife caught me practicing in my gravel box a couple of days ago: "Why are you walking on rocks?"
Me: "So I can run on rocks."
[. . .]
7.5 mile trail run with 500m of rocks.
So after 3 years of stretching and exercising, my bunions are straight, and I can run on rocks. Podiatrists, eat your hearts out! :p
Nice pics Sid! Looks like a lovely area for running. I'm envious. Especially today--right now the temp is -15F/-42F windchill.
And congratulations on your brilliant self-diagnosis and treatment!
I think both pains are related and reading through migangelo's report on his gait analysis exercise has me thinking now...Even though I hate strength training, maybe I need to do that.
It took Mike to convince you of the importance of ST? Now you've gone and made me feel bad.

Butt seriously, all you need is a barbell, some plates, a pull-up bar, and probably a bench, and you can do all the basic exercises in your garage or basement: deadlift, squat, bench and shoulder presses, bent-over rows, and pull-ups. You can substitute push-ups for the bench press if you don't want to take up space with a bench.

Strength training can get boring, but even just a few times a week for 30-40 minutes will get you some decent benefit.

Hah, I know...I think we had that discussion a few times in the past, but I just hate going to the gym, even exercising at home is not my thing....

But now, this is what finished to convince me, it is just 1km away from home, so it is the perfect warm up to go there before some exercise:

Looks nice! I wish I lived in a climate where that'd be possible. I'd much rather do my st outside. But even here in the summer, there's too much rain to make it feasible, and I don't really want the neighbors and walkers to see me grunting away.

That beach scene is quite a contrast to what we're going through here. Schools will be closed again tomorrow, low of -20F/-30C, but at least they'll have Discovery Club. This will be one of the coldest Januaries on record.

It's a little hard to tell in the pic, but if those are weighted machines, be a little bit careful, as they sometimes force somewhat unnatural planes and ranges of motion. You might also consider getting some suspension straps to hook up there or nearby.

Woaw ! I cannot imagine -30C ! Just take care out there, this is crazy temperatures, and I suspect not one to put a finger outside !!

The picture was taken yesterday, it was not a really nice day, to be honest, today would have been much nicer. I will check on the machines, thanks for the tip !

lifted yesterday. had graston done by my intern. not so sore now.

is this the right week? 3 pages in for a tuesday seems like a lot. maybe i'm not that awake.
