Here we go again....

I slip my shoes/sandals off everywhere! Movies, restaraunts, bars (not in the ladies room:) --wherever I am. Sometimes I'm barefoot, sometimes I have socks on but nobody has ever asked me to put my shoes back on. I agree that there may be a gender issue at play. I think people are used to seeing women's feet naked; men's feet-- not so much. Sorry guys...

Yeah it's not fair for guys. I get berated at work sometimes, and they call me a hippie. Which is kind of ironic because I am just not a hippie. Nothing against them I just never thought of myself as one. Oh well.

Have you heard about the Society for Barefoot Living? You could join them. They do things to try to change the laws, I believe, and they have materials you can carry to help you fight your battles, get into stores, all that.

Don't make me laugh. They do diddly-squat in regards to changing laws. The group is set up to be nothing more than a bunch of individual members. For instance, yes, they get letters from all the states regarding (the non-existence of) health codes, but that is done by individuals (with a bit of coordination). It would be useful if they letters were official queries from the "director" of the SBL, but as soon as I suggested that, it was shot down immediately. (I suspect there was also some jealousy involved, in that certain people didn't want other folks to have any sort of official status.)

But they are so individualistic that you'll be lucky to get maybe 10 people to do anything activist (and then another 10 will qvetch about the first 10).

At least The Barefoot Alliance has some sort of central letter-writing authority (but membership?)

sigh.

Earlier this week I presented a county letter that was addressesd to me to a restaurant manager. He wanted me to show ID to prove that I was the real recipient! First time that ever happened.

What do you mean "county letter?"

I have written to counties in MI and FL . In both states the county health departments are in charge of enforcing regulations created at the state level. Restaurants are very familier with county health department inspections , and when I show them the signed letter on real letterhead they realize that I'm right /they're wrong. Most even have a phone contact number. I also tell the manager that the county wants me to report any restaurants that show unfamiliarity with the rules, that usually gets them to back down .

What is the gist of the letter, something along the lines of "it's legal / okay for TJ to walk around barefoot"?

More like : "My wife was told by a restaurant manager that dining in her bare feet was illegal and a violation of health department rules. Has Xyz county added a footwear required rule for restaurant customers ?"
" Xyz county does not regulate customer attire.... Probably some sort of dress code was the reason she was refused service, just like a jacket and tie may be required for men"
