Mileage Reporting 49th Week 2013

did my maf test this morning and 5 miles overall. 25f is too cold for me to run bf. my right foot went numb. i'm also getting slower. since i can't reduce my stress i'm going to put myself into ketosis for a few months to see how that helps. i'll also be able to run more with my new schedule in jan.

2 miles easy run local roads in 16:45...temp around 50f cloudy with a bit of breeze...felt cold out still with no sun. Only run this week just starting to get back into regular running again. Legs have been a bit achy with all the in-activity so I'm making myself do a bunch of short frequent runs for the next couple weeks.

Thanks for the info I just learned today they cancelled the race :(.
I will regroup and move forward.
I will keep on running!!

If you can't find another marathon nearby soon maybe you could run your own personal marathon by yourself with just your friends/family as support...still would be rewarding at least for the effort.

10.8km along the beach, over the Barwon Heads Bridge and along a concrete path for a bit. I passed 1000km for the year today, 630-odd of it barefoot, so that's something to celebrate. Plenty of people out on the beach this morning, including a fitness 'bootcamp' complete with the shouting trainer who referred to the people as 'recruit', which made me laugh. Seriously, who pays money for that kind of treatment?

On the negative side, my feet are a bit niggly at the moment. 3km in I felt a bit of pain in my left arch and almost stopped, fearing PF, but it went away quickly. Later, I had this weird thing where it felt like my 3rd and 4th toes were being pulled down when I lifted my foot, kinda like I had cotton from my socks caught around them. That too went away eventually. Now my feet are generally achey and I'm feeling a bit bruised at the base of the 4th met, or the ring toe (I think I'm counting from the right end!) on one foot - I have no idea how you get sore there, but I did. That's not to say I regret the run, of course.

Well I got 6 miles in today... first run in like 3 weeks. It was so pretty out I had too, bright clear azure sky, white snow on the ground and trees... was a bit cool in the 20's so I went with my Merrels and surprisingly didnt have any foot issues like I did last winter with shoes. But I only topped out at a 10 m/m pace, and it was just one run. Hopefully will get back into the swing of things and start getting some runs in. Last night was actually my first nightshift since I went onto days at the start of the year. I missed the 'first thing when I wake up in the afternoon' runs, its probably adding to the stress on the system a little but I think it really helps get me going after the 12hr flip.

My left leg tries to go numb every once in awhile, and I can get rid of it by stopping and doing a series of wide-stance squats. Though, you will just ignore what I just said. BTW, is ketosis what happens when you cut out all carbs? If it is, don't breathe on any girls during that time.

I did not run yesterday or today because there is incredibly deep snow where I live and I have nothing waterproof to wear on my feet. Humans with damaged brain neurotransmitters SHOULD NOT BE DEPRIVED OF MOVEMENT. I HAVE to move tomorrow, this won't be melting for days. So the spousal unit and I are going to pool in town that also has a gym, that I may or may not use.

I plan to start doing short, daily runs of about 4-6 miles right above my sailboat (on the old railroad), cuz it's convenient and I save gas (maybe a Wilwood "real" trail run once a week).

I am contemplating joining the gym across from my house again (it's cheap, a monthly contract, and only a 2 minute drive) - the only reason I didn't really want to is because it doesn't have a pool. But, when I go to the gym/pool, in town, I rarely use both on the same visit any way, so that's not saving me money at all.

Decisions, decisions...

Feeling overall better and better and I did go to the gym yesterday and did an easy legs and shoulders workout. I need to work up strength again. I felt weak.
I'll go to the gym again today. Back workout planned.
My feet is f*ing still not ready for to start running.
It's mostly the green tendon but also the blue one that's giving me trouple.

Line, have you tried massaging out the muscles around your shins? I use the stick and it helps a lot for pain in the tops of the feet. Just an idea as I have seen multiple poss from you about sore feet. Could just be that you are really tight...

About 3.15 miles this morning, then a running strength and speed workout of 6x10s hill sprints, 4 skipping drills with strides, 2 buttkicking drills with strides and 1 carioca.

Yes I have, and when I do it it helps, I should do it more..
I know where to massage and press. I feel it in the tendons in my feet when I find the right spots on my lower legs.
Rest, massage, and starting over slowly.. That what I'll do

Well, bagging my 5k race today. We had a rough night with the baby so I am letting the wife sleep since she is letting me skip our afternoon and evening plans so I can spend the afternoon hanging out and watching football with a buddy of mine that I rarely get to see anymore. Besides, with the temps in the teens right now it's not like I would really be able to race and be very fast. So unusual for us.

Saturday night bare foot dancing in a local bar. They like me there. But, I didn't walk in bare footed because it is about 0°F and several inches of snow. When I went out to take care of chickens this morning at 10:30 AM my fingers started to hurt a lot after 15 minutes and I was wearing insulated gloves! So, I'm staying in the house for now.

Baby granddaughter weaned off of ventilator, but dealing with some extra fluid in the lungs and waiting to see if weird heart beats will settle down within a week so that they don't have to put her on a pacemaker. Overall looks very hopeful.

Sorry to hear about that Runlite. Maintain your base and find another. No shortage of marathon options, but you probably wanted your first to be close to home.

Are you by any chance doing The Winter Sun Run in Moab tomorrow? I'm not (I work Saturdays), but I know several people who are headed over there from our Western Colorado town.

I haven't run in the Moab area yet. I know they have quite a few good races over there. I wonder how the weather was for the Moab race, huge storm in my area that I was out in for 10 hours.

Don't worry about your Altra shoes, I have quite a collection myself. Maybe we can all join forces and have them make a more minimal shoe.

Saturday - 50 mile race, Expedition St. George. I don't know how I pulled it off, but having help from my wife, brother, and sister in-law saved my race. Frozen hands at mile 22 nearly had me drop out. After warming up I continued on and at mile 30, had my brother and sister in-law alternate pacing to get me to the finish. 21 miles in sandals and then record snowfall for the area forced me to wear shoes for the remainder. This was a relay race with most teams having 5 members. A few 2 person teams and 3 Ultra runners. One guy no showed and I don't know if the other finished, so at least a second place finish. I feel guilty about having all this aid for a 50 miler, but the conditions were pretty extreme, the weather, not the course. I finished way faster than expected at 9 hours 40 minutes (had to stay warm). A sore knee and foot possibly from a faster pace. Taking a break from running for a while and dusting off the cross country skis.

Still smiling after 42 miles. Not very minimal with my shoes and huge mittens.

sh*t. i had running gloves on in 18f weather and while my hands warmed up when i walked to cool down my hands froze. too much sweat inside. i bought a second pair of gloves that i think i will switch out next time i finish a run.

so i ran around 7 miles in this 18f weather with my dog and i wore my lunas. feet warmed up then close to an hour and my right foot went numb. horribly numb. quite painful. i brought trail shoes to wear but went for a road run. that's what i get.

Well done Rick. That's quite an achievement!

I think I would have chosen to ski that event - even if I was breaking my own trail!
