Mileage Reporting 48th Week 2013

I did a back workout in the gym today.
I feel sorry for my dog. He's so used to our daily walks or runs and he's not getting out on them this week. I almost did a walk today just for him, but didn't and now I'm actually pretty proud that I didn't and rested the feet as planned.

Good to see you resting when you know you should!

So today I didn't stay at home. I went for a walk with my dog with normal shoes on. It felt ok when I did the walk. Now I'm not sure. I guess it's not better nor worse. Then I just got home from the gym. Did abs and biceps. Sort of left overs from the previous days.

Hmm. Guess I should have read the whole thread first. ;) But at least you only walked. Hope it gets better soon!

Monday - bruised leg felt good enough to swim, but I kept it to 20 minutes to test things out

Tuesday - circumstances conspired against me and then I figured with the high mileage (for me) last week, and the injury, it was okay to rest another day, although I was walking around doing chores a bit as best I could.

Wednesday - 60 minutes on the spin bike, but began to really get the itch to run, so

Thursday - 6.55 miles around my pond loop, with family around all running their own paces. Temps hovering 39-41, so only took half of the miles for the winter challenge. All was dry, though so feet were toasty. Almost feel guilty for getting credit .... but I know, too, that I have made progress on what I can handle.

Had a fun comment that will be posted in the comments thread.

sunday: 6 mi on snow, wore socks n sandals even though it was freeeeeezing wind and snowy, because everything else messes with my form. however, I can feel the snow and slush on my feet muscles. Glad I didn't do the 9 I was intending to do.
later sunday: 3mi in thin socks around square track at gym, then weights.

monday: 2.5 mi. soft stars. felt heavy. a few weights. then swim at night, maybe an hour.

tuesday: 1 mi run in socks at gym, then weights. night swim, maybe 30 min.

wednesday: 2 mi run, socks and sandals, cold temps, some leg tendon and feet freaking, so I cut things short and went to the gym, did weights. lunch: dunno,40-45 min swim. leg fine afterwards.

thurs: happy thanksgiving!!! 9 miler on the usual route, moc 3s jimmied up with safety pins so they wouldn't be so floppy around my ankles, snow and some ice, but not thick. weights. long drive to relatives' homes for dinner. soon to bed. swim or run on black friday morning so i can feel better than all the shoppers. so there.

:D Yeah and in shoes..
Thanks. I hope so too. Today the day after that walk they feel like they did yesterday so no extra harm was done, just didn't get better either.
I won't do a walk today but in the weekend, even though it's not walk, I'll be standing and walking around a lot. Like all the time. So I'll wear my shoes and hope for the best. I don't think I'll be ready to start running again next week. Feels like I need next week to rest too.
Damn it. It all went to good and now this.. Oh well. It'll heal too..

Nice 3 mile run at 5:45 am, 34 deg., f., very clear skies. Cool moon!!

morning: slept poorly since my body wanted to wake up at the usual time, but it was too early after going to bed late and I was tired, so I kept trying to go back to bed. Once I gave up, I went to the pool here for a nice swim. over an hour, not sure by how much. I texted my sis and told her I would work out w her if she got up, but she never showed so I did about 30 minutes in the adjacent workout area on weights and a bit of elliptical.
walked dog with my daughter for about 25 minutes after that.

Did a long run after work, didn't look at the watch the whole time, just ran and enjoyed the near solitude of a park that people don't come to on Black Friday. Focused on staying relaxed and running very easy pace, not worrying about how fast I was going. Then it was all done and things felt good, like I could have run for a lot longer but 8.2 miles was plenty for tonight.

I've been trying to think on what I want to get done running-wise over the coming winter months. First goal is to run as much as possible as conditions allow. Second goal is to keep improving the base and then I think about mid-February or so look at maybe adding in some work to help focus and sharpen me for a 5K the first weekend of April. Last time I did this particular 5K was in 2009 and it'll be good to do it again, it just always seems appropriate for me to do 5Ks that have a link to diabetes. But I would very much like to go into it with the sense that it'll be one that I'll do a full-throttle race and push myself to the limit.

I've also decided that I need to incorporate some form drills to do once a week or so.

It's time to work on becoming a runner, so much more a runner than I ever was between 2007 and 2010.

I swam 30 minutes without a break (pseudo open water) in my pool, after a 5 minute interval first, so 35 minutes total. I think that is the longest time period I have done without stopping.

Then, I worked out in the yard, doing endurance weeding and cabbage harvesting until dusk. I was going to bike, but I forgot! and it won't work with the family schedule now. Oops.

does anyone know of any schedules for after running a marathon or where I might find something like this.
I am trying to plan ahead.

I hope that link works for you. I would say don't over think things now, your recovery will depend on how you run your race . Go out and have a great race. I know you will, your training has gone well from reading your posts. See how you feel after your race and be a little conservative. Give your body a good rest.

Right, I have all the symptoms of PF, sore point on the heel, morning pain when getting out of bed....I am off running for some time....I am really disappointed with myself. I have not listened to my body, and the result is devastating....

On a positive note, I have achieved over a 1000mi for the year (about 1750km/1100mi).

I'll stop for another week or two, do a lot of calf foam rolling, and hope for the best !!!

Summer is here, and I love the early morning runs while temp are already above 20C/68C at 5-6am, so I really hope to get back soon !!

So sorry to hear about your trouble, but big congrats on the mileage achievement.

Bless me, barefooters, for I have sinned. Its been a week since my last report.....

Sunday, I drove to a park near where one of my best friends lives. I needed to get some trail miles in and it was hunting season at all the parks here... I ran a trail half marathon..... well actually, I ran 12 miles, looked at my GPS and said, screw that! I need another mile! 13.1.
I nearly choked to death on gummy bears at mile 5.5, but I made it. Afterward, I swung by my buddy's house... he asked, "Beer or Gatorade? " I explained that I had just burned 1500 calories... "BEER HIM!!!"

Right Achilles was off afterwards, so I passed on running until Thursday.
3.5 miles road and then a plate of Thanksgiving. God, thank You for the numerous blessings you've bestowed on my family and my country, remind us that it is the duty of all nations to be humbly grateful.

Today, 7 miles on trails....

27.44 miles for the week, probably my last week of running all bare.

My head cold lingered throughout the week, leaving me with low energy. I got in one five-miler on Monday, one four-miler on Thanksgiving (Thursday), and 10.39 miles yesterday, down by the Mississippi River. The rest of the mileage consisted of my one-mile run-commutes. Set a new windchill low on one of them, at -2F/-18.89C, and got to my lowest air temp low of the season on another, at 10F/-12.22C. I ordered a handheld Brunton Wind Weather Instrument to see if the windchills on my runs match those of online weather sites. There is sometimes a wide range given for windchills, even within the same site. On Accuweather, for example, the windchill given for 'now' and the windchill given for the current time on 'hourly' can vary dramatically.

I stubbed my toe at the beginning of yesterday's run while mistiming a shuffle step off a newly constructed curb. It bled a bit at the nail, and I considered heading straight home, but I ran the rest of the run on it anyway. It felt fine until the last couple of miles, when it started to stiffen up. I think the mild numbness helped fool me into thinking it was less serious than it was, because after my feet had warmed up at home, it really started to hurt at the met joint. I had to take some pain-killer to get to sleep. Ran this morning on it, but now it hurts again, and looks swollen. Oh brother. It'll probably be OK by tomorrow. We got above-freezing highs for the next few days, so I want to get in some decent running before it cools down again towards the end of the week--single-digit highs by the weekend.

The Icebreaker merino wool kit continues to perform wonderfully. I even got Merino wool boxers for my runs now.

I felt bad running with a bloody toe in a well-populated area. All the recreationalists on the river's bike/pedestrian paths looked at me with concern of course, because of the cold (it was around freezing), but then if they saw the blood on the big toe, they must've really thought I was nuts. I hope I didn't give barefoot running a bad name. Bad PR, like, 'he must stub his toes all the time running like that.' In fact, I do seem to average one stubbed toe per year.

Only got in two ST sessions last week. In the second one, on Friday, my energy levels were almost normal, after a couple of good nights' sleep, and I got in a decent bump. It's funny how after just a week off, how completely unmotivated I can become. But then of course as soon as I do get in a workout, I feel great and want to do it again soon. I love the feeling of mild post-workout soreness, so much better than the non-workout sogginess and lethargy I feel otherwise. Hopefully the week of unplanned 'deloading' will have done some good, and refreshed me with full recovery. I can feel a great week of pumping iron coming on. I may even try some of the Olympic lifts I've been meaning to get to.

I'll stop for another week or two, do a lot of calf foam rolling, and hope for the best !!!
Be sure to try rolling your foot with a wooden foot roller, and massaging the arch vigorously. If you feel painful knots in there, press harder until they're gone!
4.5 miles home in a wind-driven rain at 4C. A good reason for wearing shoes in some conditions :)
Wuss!

Ran 3.2 miles yesterday and 3.3 today, thereabouts.

Took advantage of today's weather warmup to walk a bit after the run, then do 4x10s hill sprints with about 3 minutes recovery in between them, then 3 skip drills with 3 strides, then 2 buttkick drills with 2 strides.

Now refueling with some of the last Thanksgiving leftovers.

22.6 miles for the week. Legs and feet feel good. At least a few running dreams during this past week as well. I have so many running dreams since I began running barefoot or in Xeros.
