Mileage Reporting 47th week 2013

6km run at the park this morning. temp hovering at about -27 degrees C. with the WC. 4 km with the mukluks and 2 km barefoot. Happy toes equals happy me.

I heard that wind start blowing last night. If we were to have a day like this in the deep of winter around here, the temp probably wouldn't get above the high teens. So I'm glad I did a second run yesterday afternoon of about 3.4 miles, felt really good on it, and tossed in 6x30s strides with 1.5 min recoveries. Hadn't done any strides in a while, but I felt good on these, hit them faster than ever before and kept good relaxed form on them.

I don't know if I'll dare to try to do some sort of microrun this afternoon. It's the wind. Strong wind and upper 20s is way worse than low 20s and still conditions.

Damn Bare, my slim lead will be gone, if it is not already. Running conditions have not been good here since Saturday night (either to slushy or just not able to get out at lunch or I would have to run at night barefoot which I don't mind but I run my dog at night so that makes barefoot impossible due to the stop and sniffs that my Husky likes to do, or the occasional rabbit or dog that she spots that she wants to investigate). I am really challenged to find good barefoot running opportunities at all, I might be hard pressed to get my 300 km goal in this year. Bleech.......... :nailbiting:
Well, we both know if you lived here in the Twin Cities you'd be able to run bare a lot more and I'd have no chance of surpassing you.

Yesterday, my head cold moved down into my lungs and I spent a good part of the day sleeping, then at night I got this weird pain in my hamstrings, as if the virus had gotten bored of my respiratory system and decided to go after the skeletal-muscular system. A dip in the Jacuzzi and some iboprofen allowed me to sleep.

Luckily I was laid up on the coldest day of the season so far--19F /-7.2C was the high (I don't know what the windchill was, funny how weather sites don't tell you what past windchills were, they're only given in the actual and in forecasts)--so I didn't feel so bad about missing my Saturday long run. Will just do ST today and tomorrow, maybe my short run-commutes tomorrow too, and then try to get back to running on Tuesday with a high of 23F/-5C. Sheesh, it's almost time already to start running back-n-forths in the Fairgrounds. This year I'm thinking of running half-mile to one-mile tempo intervals most of the time, then slip on some slippers during the breaks. Thinking of spending the winter trying to get my pace down.

Hard core BB, that's some serious windchill.
Then, at home I had to chase some escapee chickens and barreled right into a wood pile when I made a sudden turn. My feet (in leather RunAMocs) got tangled and fell part way down into it, resulting in my left thigh, just above the knee, hitting something hard. It feels very bruised, but I can't see anything and there is no obvious swelling. However, I can't do stairs normally or squat down without nearly coming to tears. I think that is enough excitement for the day.
Hope you heal up soon Laura!

4 barefoot runs = 23 miles, 1 shod run = 11 miles

Was going to complain about my weather until I saw the previous posts.

@Laura - Hope your bird/woodpile injury heals soon. I'm too lazy to chase my birds, I lure them into the pen with food. Works well with the chickens, not so much with the turkeys. One went after my fingers yesterday and I received a good nip. Even with that, Stefanie won't let me turn him into the Thanksgiving main course.

Thanks everyone. Still hurts quite a bit today, but I can tell it is already healing. I had "clapped" to herd most of my birds into the enclosed coop (like usual), but something had spooked about 4 of them and they went haywire. I was really trying to get around quickly to avoid further dispersement, but they were moving fast . They were going into the yard of a neighbor who has a history of raging at us for the slightest thing. As it was, he was "entertained" by our situation and was agreeable to us looking in his yard. So maybe it was all for the best? :wacky:

A little crazy week for weather here. Thursday it was 63 ran 8 miles, Friday it was 39 ran 5 miles.
Today excellent 9 mile run at 6:00am, 33 deg. f., 55%rh...love the cool love running barefoot! Saw two hawks soaring one was calling out. The tree are still very cool looking with all the colors. This was my last run of week 14 training for the marathon. total miles for week 26. Two weeks to go.

33 degrees! Is that the first time you have run at those temps? Are you in the winter challenge? You are putting in some impressive miles!
