This was a really well run, fun event. It was a nice hilly course. Being in Asheville, I was surprised I did not see anyone else BF or even in VFFs. However, all of the comments or questions I got were positive.

No one asked about my feet hurting or lack of support. I ran a few moments with a lady who told me her husband was an ultra runner who was running BF a few miles a week to strengthen his feet. Thanks to my wonderful wife and daughter who got up at 5 am for the hour drive because I was concerned about getting there early enough to find parking in downtown. We parked in sight of the starting line. :)

Next year the Half Marathon!

David,

I ran the Asheville Half Marathon. Like you, I didn't see anyone else barefoot, but received a lot of positive encouragement. Ashevillians love barefeet. Man was that a challenging course. The mile-long hill at mile 9 climbed up 200 ft. Running on the trail around Beaver Lake was awesomely soft. I passed four runners there. I was happy with my effort and still felt strong at the end. My feet felt fine afterwards, no blisters or sensitivity. The only thing that kinda bothered me throughout the run is some of my right toes felt a little numb like they were "asleep". That's the first time I've ever noticed that while running barefoot.

Congrats, David! You looked like you were having fun and were relaxed, the perfect combination for a barefoot runner.

I had recalled that string of comments and found it quickly through the SBL member group search function, but I had forgotten how far all those guys took the matter!

There is a lot of good info the various barefooters brought to the table that could be used during any future encounters.

Nice race David. I'll be

Nice race David.

I'll be running in my first official 5k race in a couple of weeks... I'll also be BF.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice running Kelly!

Thanks David and TJ. Perhaps

Thanks David and TJ. Perhaps we can make the AVL Half a barefoot meet-up next year. I'd love to visit the city again. The 3 hour drive from Cookeville, TN isn't too bad, definitely worth the drive.
