Mileage Reporting 42nd Week 2013

Monday - swam 25 minutes, then rode spin bike 60 minutes.
Tuesday - at least 2 hours of heavy weeding, waited about 4 hours, then ran a gentle 6.5 miles getting bugs in my eyeballs while being blinded by the setting sun

35 minutes strength exercises -glutes, hams, quads, low back. Realized I have been forgetting to do my reverse hyper-extensions DAILY. Easy to forget because it requires "make-shift gym equipment" resembling a bench. Hard to create. But NOT impossible and super well worth it! So glad I was reminded! Explains why my hips are so misaligned and top of glute medius' are so perturbed after yesterday's trail run.

Is it a full moon tonight? It has to be! :astronaut:

I didn't see much for wild animals this evening on my 9'er mile run but the WILD and CRAZY PEOPLE were definitely out on the walking/bike trail tonight. After reaching about the 4 mile point during my nine mile run this evening I glanced behind me to check for bicyclists as there seemed to be an abundance of them whizzing past me during my run. I did see one bike coming my way but it was a fair distance back and figured it would not be too long before it too went whizzing around me.

After running some I thought I heard the bicycle just behind me so as usual I moved as far right on the trail as possible while continuing my run and waited for the pass. Well the pass seemed to be taking longer than normal so I began to look over my left shoulder to see what the problem was. What I saw was a lady on a bike riding at nearly the same pace I was running but following so close behind me that I quickly became concerned that she was going to run into my heels. She continued to follow me right on my heels. I looked ahead thinking ok someone must be coming in the opposite direction so she is waiting for them to go by and then she could pass me. Nope no one there! Just when I was about to say something she pulled around me and sloooowly passed me. Watching her as she continued on I noticed she was riding like a zombie. :vampire: Starring straight ahead as if she was in a deep trance she continued on. As she rode I notice she was kinda unsteady and that the bike she was riding had a front flat tire that was nearly riding on the rim but she never even noticed. In fact I'm not totally sure she even ever saw me right in front of her.

After reaching the park I once again saw this zombie now off of her bicycle and doing exercises at the fitness equipment within the park which is located just off to the side of the bike trail. Yep she still had that blank stare. o_O I continued on and luckily didn't see her again. I'm sure she rode that bike back home with the front tire being completely flat by then. Guess you get more of a work out when your bike peddles harder because of flat tires. :)

While running this evening I noticed that there was quite a bit of grass / weeds on the trail. I could tell that the trail had been mowed again and yep the stickers and sandburs were spread all over the trail once more. I began scanning the trail like a machine to ensure I didn't step on them. Did manage to step on one goats head and had to stop to pull it out but continued on as if nothing had happened.

The hours of daylight remaining after I get off work sure seem to be getting short with temperatures that quickly drop. I wore shorts and a T-shirt on this evenings run and quickly found myself slightly underdressed with temps that started out in the mid 50's but dropped to the point where I had wished I would have at least worn my tights. I survived and look forward to tomorrow evenings run.

4 mi am 2 shooting stars

On the night of October 21st is the Orionids meteor shower but there is going to be almost a full moon that night which will make seeing some of the fainter meteors hard to see. Bummer! :( Still might be worth watching! The skies have been quite clear in the early morning hours as I drive to work.

Might be time to dig out my cheap but good enough telescope to look at some of the other interesting objects in space. I think it was the Geminids meteor shower last December was quite a show. Hope it will be just as good this year with clear skies.

A bicyclist like that would make me nervous!

Maybe one day we will all be impervious to goat heads? One can hope, anyway...

Reactions: Go Barefoot
So my foot finally feels good and yesterday I went for a run that I felt went great. But now my ankle hurts
At the risk of saying what has already been said: Are you trying totally barefoot? I know it made a huge difference for me with injuries getting started.

I was going to wait and report this evenings 60 minutes on the spin bike tomorrow after a run, but then I had to run out and close up the chickens for the night. I don't usually really run to do that chore, but with the cold and dark, I was "inspired." Then, I evaluated the "run" and I think it qualifies as a micro run, totaling a solid 1/4 mile by the time I ran first to the far back of the acre, the to the far front. In flip flops due to darkness and chickenwire...

2.8 miles last night. Nearing the end of it, I was passing a house where a father and his young son were getting out of their car. The father saw me, and said, "No Vibrams? You are a champion!" That made me smile and I said thank you.

Back on the road... not entirely painfree, but mostly.

Tues, 2 easy miles.
Wed, 2 easy miles.
Today, 2 easy miles. Had to put on the sock liner of the Vivo Ultras for the last 1/2 mile. It was wet, more like moist. Everything was sticking to the bottom of my feet... No puddles to jump in....

Anyhow, the spot between my ankle and heel is still sore, so I'm icing. It swells if I do.something stupid like sliding across the hood of a car while hollering "YeeHaw!" Bo Duke style. (Go ahead and laugh, this actually happened yesterday for some reason....)

This entire community is at me about the totally barefootedness.. :D
no, it was in my vff..
(I know, I know...) ;)

5.44 miles, avg 9:18 pace for the run. My fastest two miles were 8:44 and 8:52. I kinda ran too hard and ran my Army buddy into the ground. I could have gone farther and faster, but he was starting to hit the suck so I slowed down a touch and we turned back. It's nice having someone with me to kinda push me a bit. Turns out I am a little faster than I had been letting myself run. Guess you can sometimes get into a rut and forget to actually push yourself to train just slightly past your comfort zones. Guess I got so afraid of hurting myself I was holding myself back.
