Just wanted to post that I completed my first 10k! I finished last but one and I'm really proud of myself as I beat my previous 10k in training time by 15 mins. I was at the back of the pack right from the off, everyone else was defo there to race whereas I was just there to see IF I could hack it. I had only ever done one full 10k, sometime last week and even that had a couple of stops, well pauses whilst I adjusted my Xero's or waited to cross main roads. So, I'm well proud that I made it, got a good time (for me) and although I have a few blisters at least the groin strain that has held me back since Monday, seemed to behave (I could feel it but able to run through it). I had a few comments, out of curiosity about my sandals but they were nice and a couple of ladies were really interested in how I managed to run in them.
Anyhoo, that was my day. Hope you all had a good one!

Nice work Pigwig :)

Way to go PW!

Lovely way to begin your racing career. Just smashing!

There's an exercise called the "100 Up" that's pretty easy to get the hang of and might help your groin / quad / glutes / hip flexor strength development. I find it suits my needs there well and doesn't take any time hardly and no equipment at all. Look up a video in You-tube (Christopher MacDougall did one not too long ago for the New York Times.) Also, maybe start off with a "10 Up" or so until you are feeling a bit sturdier and find your balance.

Proud of you!!! Congrats!

Congrats on your 10K! I am proud of you.

Congratulations on your first 10k, it's always a milestone to run in your first race, it gives you that confidence to do others, all without big boofy shoes as well.

Ha ha, so right! You should see the FB comments from my friends. I hadn't advertised the fact that I'd switched to sandals as I wanted to make sure it was right for me first before I tried to justify it to others. Most are like "wow, are you sure you can run in those"!
