Garmin 305 issues

I've had my Garmin FR 305 for about 3 1/2 years. Lately, my laptop hasn't been recognizing it. Is this a life expectancy issue with the 305 or is it something else? I don't know if it's my port either, because when I plug it in to charge, it charges just fine. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the Garmin driver and such, but I don't know what else to do.

Any idea?

so I guess the real issue is "USB device not recognized". I've done everything the FAQ's on the Garmin site recommended, but nothing. I've done this on my laptop as well as my work computer. :/

Maybe one of the data pins on the Garmin or on the charge station has some corrosion and just needs to be cleaned. Try a different USB cable first. Then see if you can borrow someone else's charge station.

Sometimes the corrosion is internal. If so, not sure that you can do much about it, now. See this thread.

Garmin will do an out of warranty repair, where they swap out your old watch for a refurb for $79. I put a piece of tape over the contacts and holes when I run, to keep the moisture out.
