Mileage Reporting 38th week 2013

Jeez Dama, don't you have Google Maps?!!:p:p:p

They're not too far by freeway, 20 or 40 minutes by freeway, respectively, maybe. Mental-map-wise, they mis' well be close to the border with Canada. There's never ever any reason to go out that way, unless you're heading out of town.

OK, going to try to finish my upper body st . . .
:p:p:p

Tuesday I did 5 miles, mostly easy except for two short speed sessions of about .4 then .2 just making sure my legs don't forget how to go fast before my 5k saturday. Yesterday I did a really easy 4.4 except for one speed session of maybe .4 miles. I paid really close attention to the path since I was on the race course and brushed any gravel and nuts I came across off the trail. Besides a few nuts its usually pretty clean except when the mower hits gravel - there is about a foot or so of gravel on each side since it used to be a railway, and they mow it since weeds grow up through the gravel and often kick up gravel onto the path. Its hard to spot them now with leaves starting to litter the area.

Going to try to break 20 minutes tomorrow, thats a goal I never thought I'd hit for a 5k since I got back into running a few years ago. But its like 90% chance of showers tonight and in the monring, so not sure how the rain will effect me in a race - I havent raced in rain ever as an adult. Or since its just a small race (probably 20-30 ppl) I wonder if they may cancel or postpone if its bad.
Best wishes for breakin 20! Small group: maybe you can place?

did 20 on Sunday...went well....
rained the whole time but I must say, my feet always feel better in the rain...not a single hot spot.
Not sure why but I'll take it! :)

Legs felt tired at the end but I would have had no problem going another 6 or 7 (so I think).

did 6 on Tuesday....in the dark....that was pretty fun...I did put on the Lunas to avoid any stupid missteps just before the race.
Ran through a patch of woods that made me feel like I was on the Hunger Games....good times :lurking:

Wednesday: spin bike 60 minutes after a day of helping PG oldest daughter do some house cleaning and rearranging to get ready for new addition to family next week. The baby has some potentially life-threatening issues discovered on ultrasound, so it could be intense next Thursday when she is birthed by c-section.

Thursday: rest day, second day without internet

Friday: managed a run at lunch time for 7 miles. Was hoping for 8, but my feet were a bit sensitive from Tuesday's run and the wind was making me work hard. One daughter and son (with stroller) ran with me barefoot for 4 miles. After they were gone, I saw a beautiful blue dragonfly zooming around like a fighter pilot. Then, got to spend time with 16 month old grandson, doing things like playing ball, taking a nap, and eating ice cream.

friday evening: 30 min swim
saturday morning: ~5 mi run at dawn. Beautiful. geese and swan families on the water, birds just beginning to sing, bright moon, little puffy clouds, deep velvet blue sky, turning slowly to a powder blue, cool temps and a gentle wind, serene. Calmed my nerves a bit. Now they are back up.

A recovery week. Sunday a big hike with my son, "only" 14 miles but some of the most rugged conditions I have encountered. Once again impressed with my son, he had left his boat anchors out of town so he did the hike in his NB Road minimus shoes. I had my Altra Lone Peaks on, a great choice for these conditions. We were on the trail for 7 hours. Mid week a 3 mile BF walk and a 6 mile BF run on mild to med chip seal. Nothing for the rest of the week, started our last hay harvest. A break this weekend in between cutting and harvesting so I am planning a big one for Sunday if I can take it easy with the beer and chicken dancing at the Oktoberfest.

Nick and Laura, wishing you well with your new arrivals and their mother's health.

Late morning run at Rabbit Hill park...tried to run in the rain but it only sprinkled. First 2 miles spot check at Maff pace...still holding steady around 8:20 m/m...next did 1 mile tempo at 6:10 pace then the rest at easy/slow recovery pace. Lots and lots people at the park as soccer, football and baseball games were going on at the same time. Garmin battery died around 5 miles...guessing total around 6 miles in 51 minutes.

Woot! Surly Half Marathon completed in 2:09. Did the whole race barefoot. This was a trail run on narrow steep winding paths. Lots of different surfaces. Grass, gravel, asphalt, rocks, dirt and mud. A few runners said they were going to nominate me for surliest runner. I guess that's an award given out since the event is sponsored by Surly Brewing.

Sunday run on the beach this morning. Tried to go a bit slower and find a pace and form that was easier on my feet. I don't think I completely nailed it form-wise, but I managed a smidgeon under 11km and my Morties stayed mostly quiet and are only a little tender now. I'm hoping this means that they are recovering or building a bit of resistance to whatever it was I did to them a few weeks ago. Hope reigns supreme.

A very quiet morning on the beach - a big rainstorm came through just before I started, but I got lucky and managed to get my run in with only a few light showers, just before another dump of rain came down just after I made it home.

Oh, and a belated 'Epic run report!' to Bare Lee - enjoyed the photos, Minneapolis looks like a nice city to run around. I've always had a minor fascination with Minneapolis because one of my favourite bands (Trip Shakespeare) from back in the day happen to be from there by chance, so it's nice to see what the place looks like.

This year I had my first experience of running in Minneapolis and St. Paul, and I completely concur that's one my favorite place to run now. The running races that are organized there are first rate and the race I ran this summer out there with my daughter was the best condition I've ever ran barefoot on. The views were spectacular, we ran right beside the river on Sheppard. Oh and Lee is not a chipmunk, I had the pleasure of meeting up with him and sharing a few beers to rehydrate after the run. :D

Very nice! I'm not a trail runner, but based on what I know about half times, that sounds pretty fast for a trail half of that sort -

It was a brilliantly bright morning for my 10k today at the Tour De Flure. Lovely low 60's temps. Course was layed out short so added on in the end to plus some to get in 7 miles. The road bikers that fly around that Lake can be aggressive. I don't run with music, but the folks that did would get a nasty comment now and again. Since they did not move out of the way fast enough. Me, i was just as content on the grass next to the paved trail, so on i went in good cheer. Had a totally pain free go today. Happy with time and my condition at the end. Had a blast with hubby runlite01.

All is well and happy

My first mileage report (in kilometres, actually) --
6 km in a loop around the Rideau River. (I'm lucky to have close access to a running/biking trail only a block away from home.) Route is a combination of asphalt, concrete, and grass. Grass was wet and there were a few puddles from rain last night.
Weather: 18C and cloudy.
Started at 06:45, not many people out. Stopped at my favourite coffee spot (T.A.N. Cafe) at about 4.8 km.
Mostly running, some walking, trying to keep heart rate between 98 and 125. I'm a beginning runner, so I try not to overdo the running. (I've been barefooting for close to two years now.)
