I was one of the lucky few who got in during the 59 minutes Big Sur was open for registration before it sold out!

It will be my first marathon- I have run 2 10ks and a half-marathon over a year ago. I am registered for a third 10k at the end of August and am planning for a second Half November 2. Hopefully I'll get in a couple more races in between now and Big Sur's April 27, 2014 race date. I'm excited!!

That sounds exciting Steph, have fun with your training and keep yourself safe and healthy!

Awesome 5t3ph! Thats a beautiful area. I'm signed up for my first marathon as well (October), but Big Sur beats running around the city any day! Are you going to do it bare or minimalist or?

Well plenty of time to make that decision yet. Hopefully your winter weather still allows for barefoot, and you continue to improve throughout it. Though I did run through our last couple winters, I did loose a lot of mileage and conditioning. I think I'd be worse off in April than I would be the previous fall! I'm up to 17 miles myself, so pretty close to where your at. I'm jealous that you get to run in such a nice place for your first marathon, good luck!

Stephanie,

I've ran Marine Corps Marathon 3 times pure barefoot. It's a great course that is "fairly" barefoot friendly. The first two went fairly well, but last year they changed the route at mile 22 to some god-awful chewed up asphalt that was more like really sharp gravel with the occasional pothole thrown in for flair. My 4:00 MP ended up 15 min slower over the last 4 miles! I also added nearly a mile to the route looking for smooth asphalt (didn't find any until the last mile).

Lesson? Running pure BF is like a box of chocolates... You never know what you 'gonna get...

Enjoy your training. I am!
